Tired of being nagged to VOTE! Voting records are public records, so they know if you have voted or not. Also, I get both mail and email from both parties (deluged with it!), which is funny sometimes, other times sad or even pathetic. I refuse to vote BEFORE Election Day. I don't want to miss anything before I vote. They, for whatever reason, don't like that.

Probably a minority... but the only way I could care less -aside from Valium ;) - would be to not be living with a teenager who still thinks individual votes matter, and that “your” candidate being elected gives you some kind of control over what happens next.

Kiddo... politics is such a hugely complicated -if eminently predictable- game than not even the players know what’s going to happen next, much less we, the part-time audience. (And in this country with virtually identical parties, it only confuses matters further). The illusion of control is seductive, but it’s still just an illusion Mr.Teenage Passionate Cause. You want actual say in what happens next, you need skin in the game, not just voting for this player over that player.

Come on, it’s safe elections, too (even with all that humbug).

There’s no bans FROM voting, one does not get beaten or worse for going for the wrong candidate, or daring to think and voice there should be another one, there isn’t mass shootings just to interfere with the elections themselves, stolen ballots, massive bribery (and then shootings) for ballots, etc. While thinking of force with elections I am really thinking of other things with other countries.

until the kid said, "I have no idea who I voted for." Sheeesh!

Awwwwww. Probably just nerves, poor kid.
You might be surprised how common that is when someone is really excited about doing something for the first time. No matter how much they plan, prepare, rehearse... the moment comes and their mind just blanks.

It’s similar to freeze response, stage fright, & test anxiety.

“I have no idea what I just did!” ... It’s a kind of disassociation.

Merged with honesty. Most people just sort of smile nervously and nod and hope no one can read the OMFG! What just happened??? Scrolling being their eyeballs.

While people occasionally do something totally freakish & bizarre whilst dissociated due to nerves? When it can be double checked people find they usually did exactly as they’d planned. Even if they have zip zero nada zilch recollection of it, or just the rushing blood in their ears, cold sweats, and swirling words on the page.

Ahhhh adrenaline.

For the record, I have almost zero recollection of my wedding. I’m pretty sure I said “yes” or there would have been hoopla, but I could have been stood before Darth Vader marrying a shrimp fork, for all I can actually remember of it.

@Friday Oh that is hilarious! Still laughing out loud. But the points you make in the beginning of your thoughts here are most interesting and make a lot of sense. I can recall times in my life when I have done things on the basis of pure guts and things went well, by what happened later, but I have no idea what I actually said that made them do so! (re: the giving of my father's eulogy).

^^ :giggle: Grounds for annulment? :sorry:

I studies classical music for many years. My music exams were so bad, bad, bad.... I practised like a maniac leading up to the exams. I was only a small child however I recall thinking immediately afterwards that I could not remember a thing.... worse I could not play a thing. It was quite traumatic really.... :(

I really did have to wait for the mail to come to find out if I did actually do it. I have never remembered one of them and I did many.

So..I guess it's good he turned up and voted for something. He might relax a little more next time?
