My couch to 5k app worked -- I just ran 5 km!!

It literally got me from the couch, to running 5 kilometres.
Earlier this year, I couldn't even walk for 20 seconds without feeling faint and needing to sit down (I was in the thick of an eating disorder, and doing regular 36 hour/sometimes 48 hour fasts), let alone run any distance.

With the help of my GP, T and dietician, I got my eating disorder back under (healthy)control, and then was able to turn my attention to exercise, in advance of my upcoming spine surgery next year.

It has been a real challenge, both mentally and physically, but this morning in my last run of my couch to 5k app, I ran 5.5 km in 40 minutes, without any breaks! And I didn't feel out of breath when I finished!
Next goal: 10 km.. bring it on :)

Oh and today also marks my one year freedom anniversary since leaving my abusive ex! Double win!

Thanks @bellbird I'm going to try it...

I'm 51% convinced it won't work... :meh:

But I'm gonna go with the 49% that say "Hmm maybe...?" :p

I have a Fitbit to help me count steps, which helps motivate me a bit :bag:

Amongst all the bleeping other stuff, I struggle with some agoraphobia re doing sport outdoors, so that just adds to the hurdle of motivation :meh:

I think it's really amazing you've achieved this and am looking forward to you reporting back that you've achieved your 10 km goal tooooo! :)

I am sure that if it worked for me, it can work for anyone.
I never ever imagined that I would become a "runner", ever.
But somehow, and with a generous sprinkling of patience and dedication, it happened.

I do too!
I worked with this by doing my runs early in the mornings. At that time, there's only other exercise-y people around, and I figured they're way more interested in getting their own workout done before work, rather than paying attention at the woman running along with a beetroot face.

You can do it, @Sophy !! You are strong and resilient and I think you'll surprise yourself
