I was listening to a US broadcasting service a while ago.....

Apparently it will take 20 Republican Senators to flip and agree to impeach and that's considered nigh on impossible. Even I can understand that.

So why is the investigation even proceeding?

I'm not completely over the process but it seems there is the investigation and then if that comes out with sufficient evidence to impeach then there is the impeachment process.

Well why bother if they are never going to be able to jump that impeachment process because of lack of support from Senators who remain loyal to el pres? Sounds like a waste of time and money and a distraction from policies.

When Richard Nixon was president, there was a time, before the investigation, when he was quite popular and had broad support from his party. And then the tapes came out and it was obvious to nearly everyone what kind of person he really was and what he'd been up to. So, things can change.

Besides that, I think the voters deserve an accurate picture of what's been going on before we vote again. There are a percentage of people who have irrevocably made up their minds about trump, but i think there are probably some who might be open to rethinking things. Personally, I want to see how the republicans, individually, handle this. A lot of them, to me, look like they've sold their souls to the devil. I'd like to see them get another chance to put country before party.

I think if enough evidence comes out with this investigation, more and more Americans will direct their senators to impeach. I can only hope so. Enough is enough. Bill Clinton was impeached for lying, This president has lied to the public over 12,000 times in the past 980 days according to The Washington Post. Hmm. Fox News says he has told no lies. WTF! I used to feel lucky to live here, now I'm embarrassed.

The House of Representatives impeaches. Impeachment just means that the case goes to trial. Following the trial, the Senate votes to remove the President or not.

Bill Clinton was impeached but acquitted by the Senate. Nixon resigned before he was impeached because the Senate certainly would have removed him from office. There is not a chance Trump is removed from office because Republicans hold the Senate 53-45 and not even one Republican would ever vote to remove a sitting Republican president, even one as odious as Trump.

ETA: Another reason no Republican senator would vote to remove Trump is because he is still quite popular. The latest polls show that 91% of people who describe themselves as Republican approve of him, which is the highest approval rating of his entire presidency among Republicans. (Nationally, he still hovers around a 40% approval rating.)

I knew that, what I meant was that if they vote to impeach, the senate might turn around. Sorry, it's always a little fuzzy for me, lol, I do believe they would save their collective asses, and their party by removing him. Difference of opinion.

I know what you mean, but most Republicans are firmly in the bag for Trump. They did a survey before and after the election about what people thought of Putin. Before the election, almost no one liked Putin. Afterwards, almost every Republican surveyed liked him. So people are more than willing to side with whoever they think is a winner. Trump is a big winner to Republicans.
