Nervous about posting here for the first time.
A Grevillea cv. 'Robyn Gordon' at the local skate park this morning. The flowers were radiant with colour after heavy rain.

Hope your nerves have lessened after posting here, @Sideways . That photo is stunning.

Wow, @Sideways , nice shot! Do they have any smell? It immediately made me think of honeysuckle because of the tendrils, although much more pronounced, colorfully vibrant, and plentiful, for sure. Glad you shared. ?

Spent some time in and around the mountain stream today, giving thanks to the sacred water and all the life it supports, apologizing to it on behalf of the humans, enjoyed feeling the water rushing past me, enjoying the ripples, and soaking up the soothing sound of it all...

The rains added new life to my favorite spot...

I spent some time talking to mom at the rock memorial I built after she passed. The wildlife had moved some of the rocks around, so I gave her her smile back, and got my own back in the process...

With the freakishly warm winter days as of late, we have some early bloomers getting a head start on the spring scene....

?They're loved by a broad range of garden beneficials, but the leaves aren't the greatest for caterpillars - I think that's why they aren't targeted as much by butterflies...?

This is a Red Winged Blackbird. Not the best picture as you need to get them in full sun to appreciate their colours. Link Removed

<laughing> I found a “kiwi” outside the barracks, at one point... carried it around in my blouse until it warmed up and flew away. Then it came back almost every night to the smoke pits, until someone would pick it up and stick it in their shirt.

Drove the zoo wild... they’d lost several kiwis during a hurricane a few years back, so they figured it was either one of theirs, or an offspring of theirs... but kiwis don’t fly. As far as I know, they never managed to catch it. The one time they did come out while he was there to take possession we were informed that we were incorrect, this was definitely a kiwi, but kiwis don’t fly. At which point the bird kept out of his hands and flew away. :hilarious: :roflmao: :hilarious:

We figured the bird liked marines, and disliked zoo employees, and weren’t especially helpful after that. He was “our” bird, and the zoo could suck it.

A few degrees in the sciences later... I almost feel bad about that. Almost.

I'd place a very high bet on that zoo keeper being wrong.
They're kind of our thing around here ;) and I've never ever heard of one being able to fly.

Those little vestigial wings ain't getting them anywhere.
And their species would be doing waaaaaay better if they could get away into the sky, from all our introduced terrestrial mammalian predators.

My contribution to the bird theme- I came across this guy at a bird sanctuary in the Lake District some years ago. The keepers were trying to make him fly for us but he wasn’t having it. He preferred to waddle-
