Hello everyone! We are graduate students in psychology at Bowling Green State University recruiting women survivors of sexual violence to contribute to an art project. We hope to use what we collect for a public display advocating against rape myths. We are seeking participants to share their stories completely and totally anonymously. We are seeking stories that directly counter rape myths. Our plan is to place the stories in frames that we can display throughout a midwestern town to bring awareness during April for sexual assault awareness month. After being displayed that month, the art will relocate to a permanent art display in a single location. If you are interested in participation, please fill out the short answer question at the following link: https://bgsu.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_a5j2JoFMz4ax8ZD

Myth: It only happens to women ?
you're so right! Our class is focused on "women and social justice" so we limited it to this population only for this project. Many of our projects outside of class focus on women and men who have experienced trauma :)

@womensocialjustice,

Do you think focusing solely on women when it comes to projects meant to endure like this possibly enforces the myth that it only happens to women, in the same way that distributing anti-rape materials that only use pictures of white women erases women of color?

I think it's separate. So even in medical texts women n men are separated. So results of a study would be skewed if considering both genders. One study on one gender doesn't mean that abuse doesnt exist towards the other. But scientifically it'd be stupid to include both in this study. Cos circumstances are different. No dude has ever been blamed for rape due to his short skirt n tits hanging out. Other studies exist for men only. This one is female only. You, yourself, have posted studies for men only.. are you seriously saying female only ones can't exist too?

Then they also have to change the questionnaire. Cos again. Different shit for different genders. Neither better or worse. Just different. It makes sense to focus on one at a time.

Obviously I disagree, but most anti-rape advocates are on you side in this.
No. Both males and females can be sexually assaulted. Both are equally bad. The reasons given (therefore the stereotypes) are different per gender. You're mistaking different reasoning for a scale of bad.

Project ideas for those who don’t feel included (though I’m unsure why since the class is literally entitled “women” but okay):

Stories/art of men who have been sexually assaulted

Stories/art of men who have been in domestic violence situations

Stories/art of women who have been in domestic violence situations-though this has been done a few different ways a new take is always great for more awareness.

Stories/art of military sexual trauma (both/all genders/men only/women only/etc)

Stories/art of those in the LGBT+ community who have been assaulted

Stories/art of date rape

Stories/art of child sexual assault

Stories/art with the focus of the perpetrator being a woman

Stories/art of child on child assault

And probably a thousand other categories. . . Anyone is welcome to start their own projects.

That information was not initially included in this thread, which made it seem that men were being intentionally excluded. Which they are, but apparently because this is a class for and by women only. Which, again, was not information that was initially provided.
