LOL...guess what I did nice for myself? I went to bed with a good book and fell asleep for about 45 min. I guess US (James and Anni) great minds think alike. Boy...for some reason I feel like a "wildwoman"! Hee Hee Hee

Hi Pottershand,

this is so great to read! I am happy you're getting a break, as Anni said, you deserve it. You've worked so hard and you've been an inspiration in strenght and faith.

I think your T has some good ideas after all ; ) doing something nice for yourself is a great one. My T gave me a table, in which I am supposed to write one good thing a day that I did for my physical, spiritual, emotional etc well being. (I don't remember all of them, will have to look at them again, I think there are 6 categories and I added creative. It was the first time when I realized that I have to focus and make effort to actually treat myself nice that its not something that will just fall from the sky and happen on its own. Seems so simple, doesn't it.

Very happy for you PH!

Ben and Jerry's! Ha! I wonder if my husband would mind me adding that to the book and bed? Dare one live life on the edge like that, though? Well I'm nothing if not intrepid. PH, your treat for yourself is becoming more decadent by the second.

My T set me similar homework PH. I've been instructed to spend at least 2 hours writing per day. In a place I feel is calming. She asked me during my session when the last time was that I felt calm and happy. I sat there for a few minutes and then said 'On the plane to Bangkok'. What happened was - I realised my r/ship was not able to be saved, and that if it was, I had absolutely no desire to save it. So I left, I booked a flight to Thailand and 3 nights in a hotel and I went 'I'll figure out the rest when I land'. What can I say - some women get a new haircut after a 'divorce'. I get on a plane to Thailand (?!).

It was my 30th bday a week after I landed this past January. That week leading up to it was one of the most freeing weeks I'd had in a very long time and was so far beyond overdue because my self esteem had officially reached rock bottom. I would wake up in the morning, take my time getting ready, pop my journal into my bag and just walk around the neighbourhood until I spooted a restaurant or cafe I liked the look of. Then I'd order a drink and a meal and I'd take two hours eating it and writing. They don't rush you out of restaurants there like they do in some cultures. It's like you're on display so they're happy for you to sit there for as long as you like.

I told my T about the entry I'd made into my journal the morning of my 30th. I was sitting there and I suddenly felt this surge of confidence and self admiration. It felt very much like I left my own body and I was walking past myself on the street, looking over at myself and feeling absolutely fascinated by this woman sitting there by herself, no partner in sight, with her journal and looking completely at peace with herself and her surroundings. In that moment I would've hit on myself! It was this sense of 'I simply MUST get to know this fascinating person. What on earth leads a woman to be sat there on her 30th bday. If I don't walk up and talk to her I know I'll regret it for the rest of my life'.

Only the woman I was watching was ME.

An excerpt from the entry in my journal which I read after my session on Tuesday -
'You know what I think sitting here in this environmentally friendly buddhist restaurant - I am sex on legs. I am the sexiest woman I've ever known for doing this. I would so wanna walk up to me and introduce myself if I saw myself here with my Thai green curry, and my pencil, and my lychee juice. 'Hellllllo beautiful - you ooze sexuality''

Was I having a good day? Hmm, yes I think I was! :) If I hadn't felt so incredibly low for such a long time I'd probably read that and feel guilt and arrogance. But it was SO needed at that particular time that I think it was quite possibly life saving.

I really love this thread.

Wow Jen...now there is an idea. After my divorce is final I will have to seriously consider a trip to someplace. You go girl! I love that story!

You know, I have never had Ben and Jerry's. Now I will have to add it to my to do list. The way my budget is, maybe I will celebrate my divorce by trying Ben and Jerry's while dreaming of a trip someplace unique.

Got a boost in the hope department today. I was accepted onto the state health plan. That means my counseling will be covered and I can go to two days a week like she wanted me to. I also got accepted to a jobs program to help me find and/or train for a career. That won't start for 60 days though. They (the state) want me "emotionally stable" first. Imagine that.....me....not stable....go figure. After my four hour class last week and meeting with all the heads of departments they all got together and evaluated my situation. They came to the conclusion that I have more on my plate than the average person at this time and need to become more stable to get the full benefit of the jobs program. They therefore are putting me on a 60 day stabilization program. That means...more counseling and give the celexa time to work if it is going to. Heck....they called me screwed up in a very politically correct way. Kinda scary if the state recognizes that. At least I am finally getting some help!

Any more suggestions on how to be nice to myself are welcome. I need to learn how to do this. I can't even think of how to do it or what to do. Though bed and a book felt wonderful the other day.

Here's an idea that's just for fun, the kids used to like to do this in many different ways. Play with vinegar and baking soda (somewhat inexpensive ingredients). When was the last time you made a vinegar and baking soda fountain?

I'm sure there are lots of recipes on the internet. We used to put the vinegar in a plastic bottle and then make a wad of toilet paper with the soda in the middle. Stuff the wad into the liquid in the bottle, put the cap on loosely (or use a push on cap) and wait until it explodes. Driveways and back yards are good for this. Just pure fun, esp. with kids.

Hi PH,

you're getting some fun suggestions, one better than the other and Anni just cracks me up : ). One thing I always wish for is a nice bath. I have a shower only, bummer, but I am planning to take advantage of my sister's bathtub when I go visit this X-mass. AAAAAH, just thinking about it calms me down.

Seedling's post just reminded me of a joke I saw the other day on a calendar. In the cartoon a mom is reading her kids a fairy tale: "...and then, the children cleaned up their rooms, fixed mommy a cup of tea and went to sleep. The End." I bought the calendar for my sister. She has two little girls and PTSD as well. I think she'll get a kick out of it.

I am really happy that the things you've been working on so hard are finally starting to come through. Doesn't it feel good to see some results for all your efforts? You've kicked ass fighting the most ridiculous beast of all - bureaucracy. Here's a hand , you deserve it.

Hugs,
Bluecat

I'm not sure this qualifies as something nice for myself, but it was fun. My daughter and I had a guitar hero marathon today on the wii. She is much better at it than I am, but it was fun. LOL...think I might have to wear a wrist brace for a while now. Nice thing is, I know most the old rock songs and she doesn't. So even though couldn't always keep up with playing the notes....I could sing! For some reason she laughed at me trying to act like a rock star with my guitar and singing away. She says I worry her...LOL...heck, I worry myself! It was fun to laugh with her though.

I couldn't have done what we did today even two weeks ago. Another glimmer of hope! I like it!

Seedling...tried to get my daughter to go do the baking soda and vinagar fountain today too. She was a spoil sport about it though. Said it reminded her too much of science class. Just reading that brought back the memories for me and made me smile. Might get her to do it yet.

Bluecat....I love baths too. Nothing more relaxing than a nice hot soak with a good book and scented candles. Soooo relaxing. I hope you get to take full advantage of your sisters tub! You deserve it!

Thanks for all the encouragement and good ideas!
