Coping mechanisms that aren’t exercise?

I’m spending lockdown in a place associated with my trauma which is fun. Right now I’m coping by making the absolute most of being in a rural location and getting out for long walks. Trouble is, I’m disabled and worried I’ll push myself too far (no pun intended) and injure my shoulders. Any tips?

I like creative tasks that are either routine (like cooking or baking) or repetitive (like coloring books, knitting, scrapbook/vision boarding). Do you have any hobbies like that?

Some crafts are very kinetic and stress-relieving—whether you’re sculpting with clay or just squishing Playdough. I know I got a kick out of learning to make my own felt (it involves repeatedly stabbing wool on a soft spongey surface).

I spent most of 2 years hooked up to an oxygen machine on the couch :wtf: For 6 months it would take me the whole day just to get to the bathroom, once... and for almost a year my weeks were ruled by shower today, dry my hair tomorrow, get dressed the 3rd day, cook something the next day. Shower today, dry my hair tomorrow, get dressed the next day, cook something. Rinse, lather, repeat. >.<

My best coping mechanisms? Were distraction (books & movies & complicated games), and fine motor activities. Lock picking, languages, whistling/singing.

First, kudos to you finding ways to cope in such a stressful environment. Second, perhaps focus more on lower body "work outs' like walking, hiking, running. Maybe list out activities and try to do a 60/40 split (60% requiring lower body muscles and only 40% of upper body). Staying outside and busy is a great coping mechanism for most any stress. Keep up the good work and prayers for peace and strength.

if you have one and can - gardening. it sounds like you're missing the physical aspect which I can understand, in that instance you might want to try some qi gong it has many medical and psycho-emotional benefits, maybe re organising a part of your place?
