It’s hard with all the government supports. I wish they could target them to those that are lower income and the businesses that would fail without them and limit them better to those who will drive and stay afloat without them. At the end of the day, they are not free but a tax. On all of us. Not overtly but in other ways. It will devalue the dollar overtime and we will have to pay more for the same stuff.

It’s like the situation with rent. About 1/3 are unable to pay rent for May. What is the solution? Waiving rent and mortgages? Maybe. That may be exactly what is needed, just like the stimulus checks... and it will have a down the road cost. That rent may have been someone‘s only income... but is it a solution to just have so many go homeless? No. So maybe the best option is to waive the rent and accept those costs that will rattle out for some time like aftershocks.

With 30 Percent of Tenants Unable To Pay Their Bills This Month Due to COVID-19, Many Want Rent Canceled

Basically, when so much of the world suspends this much of the economy, everyone is going to feel it for some time to come.

It’s like the world is on life-support in a medically induced coma right now and I think so many are just hoping that the heart of it all keeps meeting just long enough to hang out till they can wake it all up again...

@lostforgottensoul - in regards to your comment re children being carriers & still suffering from Covid19. I agree, they are human so they can still catch it & most likely be asymptomatic but still have the capacity to spread.

I wasn't suggesting that they couldn't catch or spread but rather the main problem with schools re-opening is how the teachers & wider adult school community manage.
It's hard having to isolate when you have no one. It's worse when you're dealing with grief. It's just so hard when there is no support.

^ I know you're struggling to see the usefulness of online therapy atm.

But ^ even if you just use therapy right now to connect to somebody who knows your unique position & can simply converse about the issues that covid19 are forcing on you... it's better than nothing right?

hang in there @whiteraven - take one day at a time.

There's a symbiotic relationship between any labor union and the corporate entities they labor for. Tyson is doing well by supporting the union in their desire for more protection overall for their workers. BUT - they are failing to put their own considerable financial resources towards addressing these bigger issues.
I agree with that and your post. I didn't mean to say the sky was falling. They had to close a plant and Pres. Trump backed them today. I just didn't have a whole lot to say with that post because it was self explanatory. I'll be sure to clarify next time. Meat market is ( Tysons) moving reguardless. Georges had people show up with coronav and production is still moving.

I think a lot of people are desperate to work for survival, & many in the US I hear have no medical if they've lost their insurance/ employment? :( Here we have public medical and much assistance, though one can fall through the cracks as well, but in many cases (as with standing-and-defending for natural disasters etc, eg) many need to do whatever they can knowing what isn't there or won'r be there in terms of help, financial and otherwise, and the lasting repercussions. It's not even a question of sacrifice, but here many front line workers actually aren't properly trained in PPE use nor protected. The stress and demand working is enormous. But how will it help to end up homeless and without food or meds, safety or shelter, as well?, I fear is the prevailing thought. Covid 19 that 'might be', seems less pressing than homeless on the doorstep. It really needs resources/ help, financial or family or governmentally. I don't agree with the protesters, but I fully recognize and understand & relate to the desperation, when they voice that's the case. Health and life become far secondary to financial survival, though arguably it costs more long term to lose your life, or for all to introduce risk. I swear sometimes a 'second wave' is merely the resurgence of the first that has not been erradicated.

The only thing I can't understand is people 'bored' while not working. A woman at Costco said some people come and wander around fr something to do, while others stand outside freezing waiting to get in.

Everyone started was calling in sick at the Waterloo plant. That's why they shut it down
I can't speak to the situation in Waterloo, but in Minnesota, that plants that have temporarily shut down have done so because people are SICK. I don't know how many of you have seen any of those production lines, but the lines move fast, the work involves sharp objects, and the workers are often standing shoulder to shoulder. Besides that, a lot of the employees share housing and it's often rather crowded. "Social distancing" isn't real practical so if someone gets sick, nearly everyone gets sick.
They had to close a plant and Pres. Trump backed them today.
A fair number of plants have temporarily closed, belonging to a number of companies and in several states. My understanding of what Trump did last night or this morning, was to mandate that the plants stay OPEN. I'm not sure how he proposes they do that with sick employees. This is the same problem you get with prematurely "opening things up". Great theory, but having businesses open doesn't matter much if people are too sick to either work or shop.

It's come to this? This is the stage of the pandemic we are in now?

The Coronavirus: German Doctors Highlight Shortage Of Masks By Posing Naked In "Blanke Bedenken" Protest

If I was a health care worker without PPE, I'd be upset. I might be protesting to make sure the public doesn't forget, but I'm not sure the purpose of the protests beyond that. I really doubt government and hospitals are withholding ready supplies... are they? Nonprofits and volunteers are ready to help make whatever they can to fill in until medical grade equipment is well stocked What else can be done? What changes are they requesting other than giving them PPE as fast as it is made, which is already occurring? Is it not? There is a pandemic that seems to reasonably causing a global shortage not remedied by taking one's pants off. Just saying.

Most of all, did they BURN THE CHAIRS THEY WERE SITTING IN?!

BECAUSE OMG. NO. STOP. I'll make some DIY face shields, I'll sew masks for them, I'll continue to advocate every hospital have better medical stockpiles for future pandemics, but please doctors, put YOUR PANTS BACK ON.

I am going to have so many issues now being in a medical clinic again after the pandemic.

So. Many.

I did not need another. Some things are just better left unseen.
