Travel - where is the one place you’ve been and you’d go back to?

Been thinking about this because my travel adventures have been cut dead with covid. (The bucket list thread by @whiteraven has prompted me to post :))

When the world returns to normal, traveling is likely to be very different to how it has been in the past. I am so grateful for the places I’ve already experienced but know there’s a world out there that I wanted to explore. So where can you recommend??

Where have you been that if you were told you could only visit one place again, you’d go back to?

Lake Champlain in upstate New York, Canada and Vermont. It borders on the three places. There is a cabin for rent there on Willsboro Bay. It is so peaceful. There's a porch that overlooks the bay. You can just sit there with family or friends and enjoy everything about it in the summer.

In winter the lake freezes over, then you need to stay in a warmer dwelling.

Oh wow. This is such a complicated question! I love to travel but haven't in a very long time. Not sure where you are located, but I LOVED Maine and Montana. There are so many places in this world to see, it's hard to pin it down. I think it also depends on what you want out of travel, also. I love to go places that have some sort of purpose or meaning. Churchill Manitoba, where polar bears are studied. The elephant orphanage in Kenya. So many places.

See above. LOL I went on retreat in Poland many years ago - a Buddhist/Jewish retreat at Auschwitz-Birkenau. I would absolutely go back. This time, though, I would go on my own, stay in Krakow, visit some other places in Poland, then go on to the Czech Republic. It was my first opportunity to see the older European cities and I really loved it!

What a nice thread!

I live in England, UK and am half Austrian. I'll be missing my usual summer trek in the Austrian Alps this summer due to the pandemic. Hopefully I can still do my usual skiing next winter, but who knows?

Even our trips to different parts of England have been cancelled for August. We were due to go to Dungeness in April and Devon in August. Both seaside places, with beautiful landscapes. But all cancelled....

But I have been blessed with so much travel and adventure in my life so far. My favourite places in the world are: Monte Alban, Mexico; Battenbang, Cambodia, and Venice, Los Angeles. One day I would love to go back to all those places. But if that is never possible: I'm grateful for where I have been and the different cultures I've had the pleasure of experiencing.
