Tell Me Something.....

It's a wonderful thread for so many reasons! I do the same thing Jadebear, for what it's worth only think for me it's just the sheer panic of not being able to keep UP.

There are similarities here- it's rather comforting to read, plus I agree it's tough to get past feeling one is 'bragging' if speaking of some possibly positive thing. Feels iewww- like other's will think, well, they're rather full of themselves. aren't they? Some of it, anyway but in fact it's awfully helpful. I've never mentioned those books, for instance, to anybody in a serious conversation because I once sent a few chapters and synopsis of the novel to a 'real' author I like. Astonished to get a reply-he said he'd help. Terrified me and I never did anything else with it. That's the truth-because of this thread have gotten it out again, that's all. That was some years ago-doubt that help is still there but if that person felt it ok, well, maybe someone else will. I'm unsure enough of skills for the Wiki here, but will certainly attempt it with 100% effort.

I like harpsicord music, Gregorian monk's chants ( swear ) and Lynyrd Skynrd. There's a baffling combination for you. :)

where do you get or buy baking stone .... and what type of stone ... marble, granite or what ??? I do my own bread and showed my son in law, now my grand kids don't like bought bread .... ha ha ha

It's funny. I asked for one for Xmas and I got two! 'Big box' stores like Bed B4th and Beyond sell them. I'd try department stores or baking specialty stores. Heck, I bet even Walmart sells them!

It's sort of a ceramic material- not really a stone per se.

That is interesting to me, because math is my worst subject, and I have test anxiety when I have to take a math test. Any words of wisdom?

Words of wisdom? Hmm. Don't beat yourself up for not getting the 'right' answer on the first try. You're only human. Rome wasn't built in a day. Try to be gentle with yourself and really celebrate when you do get the correct answer.

Somehow I developed a fondness for Math. I like patterns and well, that's Math for ya! I appreciate the beauty in it (it describes Nature and the Universe) and I also recognize that I do not know everything there is to know about it, but I do give myself credit for what I do know.

Pats on the back. Give them to yourself.

When my insecurities become overwhelming I still to this day suck my fingers. 99% of the time my insecurities are based on how my g/f treats me; which to date I might as well me a rock hiding under the floor mat! The only thing I have not accomplished in my life is to tell my dad that I live still!! (There’s days I don’t I just edge by) I find it very hard to open myself to others (took a year to open to T), My T operates out of a nonprofit church organization that helps those w/low incomes (at the time I was unemployed). I'm no bible thumper, I know there is a higher power out there, something beyond human, but I can’t say its God nor Jesus from what was drilled to me s a child, how they used this book on me and my cousins to achieve their deeds is wrong, however when I pick one up to read the verses remind me of them, I hear them speaking the verses.

I still have a small piece of wood from my dog house (Fred is its name) I carry it everywhere I go, when I don’t feel safe I pull Fred out or reach to my key chain and rub it I return to safety. When I'm overtaken with a fear so enormous that I begin to shake violently I have to pet Fred or else I end up cold like dad! Something over takes me I've been told its "black rage" I have no memory of the events, nor feel pain during that time frame. There are moments when I'm looked at by women that I revert to a dad’s boy; again memory during that time frame is gone.
I've accomplished most of the things I have consciously and unconsciously set out to do. I'm no hero; some count me to be one... Got to go to work now, perfect thing for someone that’s emotionally unstable, insomniac put them on 24 hour emergency call, anxiety from possibly getting a call and not being able to hear the phone when a sleep keeps me awake.

I use a ceramic 12x12 floor tile for my bread slate, works for pizza as well

Now, now ISH. Would it be presumptuous to presume your bald spot has something to do with being so young? I can safely assume yours is bigger than mine. Has yours ever changed size as mine hasn't???

have two bald patches on my legs cortacy of my step daughter... her and a friend of hers caught me crashed out on the sofa, they placed hair remover strips on my legs... I was on the ceiling by finger nails hanging (Like the cat in the cartoons) from a dead sleep! 18 years still two hairless spots on bigfoots legs!

I like this. I think we all have touchstones of one kind or another. And there's a long historic tradition of people having and using talismans or objects that were meaningful to them to help with emotions, goal achievement, and so on. Maybe it's an object that grounds us and comforts us. Or maybe it's something that brings back wonderful memories and helps us mentally go to a safe and beautiful place. It's much more common than we realize, and there's certainly nothing wrong with it at all.

I think we should surround ourselves with objects, textures, art, anything that makes us happy. Even scents -- that's why aromatherapy works so well for calming and grounding.

There's a saying I like to quote: "If it's stupid, but it works, it's not stupid."

I have a bag of alpaca fleece in my closet. It was the shearing off my first alpaca (I don't have any anymore) and still smells of hay and animals. I find it very comforting to recall happy times spent with horses, alpacas and other critters. So on a really crummy day I'll go get that bag, stick my face in it and get a good whiff! It immediately brings back some very wonderful memories, with no strings attached. And the alpaca fleece is very soft, so that's a texture that I find soothing.

Comfort objects are a good thing.
