New Here
I am new here.

I find myself in a complex and unusual situation, in life in general and with my mental health. My symptoms seem to most closely resemble CPTSD about half of which has been caused by therapists in the past. The trouble is, the current therapists can only offer more of the same which A/ hasn’t helped anything in the past and B/ I never asked for therapy in the first place— I was sent along by my PCP and things went from bad to worse.

So I am rather stuck to know what to do…

Welcome to the community, MrCftr. I am so sorry to hear about the challenges you are facing. It is incredibly tough to find yourself in a situation where past experiences with therapists have contributed to your current struggles with CPTSD. It's completely understandable to feel stuck and unsure of how to move forward.

It's essential to remember that you are not alone in this journey, and there are people here who understand what you are going through. Connecting with others who have similar experiences can be incredibly validating and supportive.

In addition to seeking peer support here, it may also be beneficial to explore alternative forms of therapy or seek out a therapist who specializes in trauma and complex trauma. While it can be daunting to trust a new therapist after past negative experiences, finding the right fit can make a significant difference in your healing journey.

Please feel free to explore the different forums on myptsd.com that focus on specific topics related to PTSD and CPTSD. You may find valuable insights, resources, and support from individuals who have been in similar situations. Remember, taking care of your mental health is essential, and reaching out for help is a courageous first step towards healing.

Thanks for your reply.

To be honest, I was sent to therapy in the first place, rather than seeking it. The whole experience of constantly turning the spotlight on to me, the constant introspection, the question about how am I going to respond to someone else’s mistake (yet again) or how am I planning to handle it, is some of what has left me traumatized. And I don’t really want any more of that, in any form.

Welcome to the forum!

Mental health has a lot of grey areas, and the symptoms of ptsd and complex ptsd can (and often do) overlap with other disorders. So it might be helpful to pursue a formal diagnosis, so that any treatment recommendations are more likely to be helpful.

We’ve got plenty of members, though, who have found healing in places other than a therapist’s office. Some of those options are still deliberately ‘therapeutic’, like art therapy, or equine therapy, while other options have nothing at all to do with therapy, like martial arts, yoga, singing, or hiking. Sky’s the limit!

Thanks.

I have a diagnosis. i don’t know why “undiagnosed” came up on my profile. I thought I selected “sufferer” and now I can’t find how to change it.

I wish the sky was the limit. I have almost no financial resources to pursue the sort of hobbies and interest which might help to some extent.

hello mrcftr. welcome to the forum. sorry for what brings you here, but glad you are here. in my own recovery from child sex trafficking, i have maintained a balance between pro support and peer support. i view my pros as reference books. chockful of good info, but they never leave the library and the goal is to get them back on the shelves as quickly as possible. my peers help me understand that info and how to ply it in the world outside the library.

in my own recovery, i did not discover that the sky was the limit until i gave up trying to force my own sick and stubborn will. my inability to trust was the blockage in my case. learning how to trust in realistic terms opened options my stubborn will could not even see on my own. a considerable portion of those options required no financial resources, whatsoever. these days i have the financial resources to pursue the hobbies and activities i choose, but still find greater satisfaction in activities which require no financial resources.

but that is me and every case is unique.

steadying support while you find what works for you. welcome aboard.

For me, the stress is one of the worst parts of my situation. I spend every day outdoors exercising. It doesn’t cost anything to walk or hike. Cycling is free once you have a bicycle. It can be an old beater mt bike, it doesn’t matter. Meditation is free. Yoga can be free. Sometimes you just have to be creative if you want to heal.

In my opinion talking therapies are so overrated. Continously rehashing the trauma just reinforces it. I have a hypnosis app that's a great tool and books like the body keep the score or pete walkers from survive to thrive are so full of knowledge. I've been a guinea pig for counsellors when they are training (it's free) I get your frustration as it often feels like they don't even listen as however often you tell them they still want to trawl through it. There are therapies like Emdr, TFT, havening ect where you don't have to recount the trauma. Find something that works for you. There's talk of sweat lodges and barefoot walking becoming more popular as it's literally grounding and getting us in touch with ourselves, art therapy, dance therapy and and just being with like minds all create connections, support and deals with that empty, alone Ness we all feel. Yoga and dance helped me reconnect to my body. I hope you find something that helps you the way you need
