Saying Goodbye To A Loved Family Pet

Our 9 year old lab Titus is in congestive heart failure. I brought him home at 4:30 this morning to say goodbye to his family and friends. Hoping our sons, daughter in-law and granddaughters can come and share his last hours with us. He will be put down in our home on Thursday. He has been such a wonderful friend, my best riding buddy, my husbands favorite dog of many we've had.

God, so much, Dad having mini strokes, my mom having emergency surgery yesterday for severe pancreatitis, my step dad diagnosed with cancer 2 weeks ago. A neighbor dog coming on our property and mauling our dogs 3 weeks ago. Now my dog has to be put down at far too young an age. Why so much all at once? I keep thinking it's the last of the bad news......

My heart is breaking.

What a beautiful boy, he looks as if he lived life to the fullest and enjoyed every moment. You and your family were lucky to have had him and he you.

He is at home with the people he loves best, he knows he is loved very deeply and because of that trust, that bond between you all he is happy.

I know how hard this is for you all, but you all know that this is best for Titus.

Life, does throw all this cr*p at us, when will it be enough, I don't know. We will hold our family close and be grateful for what we have and the time we have together.

This brought back the memories of my own dog from years ago. Making this decision is hard, but if they are suffering, we can't let them can we.

No we can't let him suffer more than for the time it takes for our sons to drive out and say goodbye. One last day and night with him. At least we've made him somewhat comfortable and he can just go to "sleep" here at home.

He is sweet Heather. Our youngest granddaughter, 3 yrs, spent the night last night. Even as crappy as he was feeling he let her love on him and he loved on her right back. The quintessential lab.....

Funny, just a few hours ago I was thinking the exact same thing Heather. Not about the talent, but that I might feel good about sketching that picture of him ;o)
