Having A Rough Day... Does Anyone Have Any Advise On How To Deal With Intrusive Thoughts?

Hi All,
I am having a difficult day. No matter what I try I can't seem to stop the intrusive thoughts that have been persistent all day. I tried the usual distraction and progressive muscle relaxation. But the thoughts keep coming and driving me nuts. I have been chasing them around my head all day. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Moondust

Hi Moondust,
I don't know what thoughts are going through your head but for me when things become overwhelming or have those silly thoughts pop into my head I talk to a close friend and it helps me a lot! I don't know what I would do without her.

Keep trying more distractions until you have a good working 'list' that works for you...then practice, practice, and practice them some more.

Do you have any hobbies now? Or old ones you put down? New ones you'd like to try?

If you can't do that yet, write down all the intrusive thoughts. Give them your full gentle attention, and follow where they lead.

It does get better...

Keep reading, posting, and speaking kindly to yourself.

Mr. Smith,
Thanks, for your kind words. I have a few friends but, calls seem few and far between since the PTSD. I have been isolated.

Who is doing the isolation? Personality I have a habit of pushing people away, friends and family members alike thinking I am saving them from myself when in fact some do care and are willing to help me and stick with me and I them.

Go out and try something new! Dare to be great! There is sooooo much in this world that is hidden, just go out there and say "World here I come, I accept me for who I am! Even though I might not feel like it at times but HERE I COME!"

Mr. Smith,
I guess I am guilty of the same. On ocassion I isolate myself from others. I should be adopting a new matra.

I get songs stuck in my head when intrusive thoughts become a problem. I have a few go to songs that are nearly impossible for me to get out of my head (none of which I can remember at the moment), but they seem to reroute what's going on in my brain. I don't know if that would work for you or not, or if it's even healthy, but that's how I deal.
