Having A Rough Day... Does Anyone Have Any Advise On How To Deal With Intrusive Thoughts?

I will listen to some music and see if anything sticks with me:)

I listen to an audio book through headphones, that sometimes helps.

Also my T trained me to have an imaginery container. The container can be anything you want (mine is a carpet bag), this is a magic bag and only I can put things in and take things out. As soon as thoughts come to me which I can't or don't want to deal with I tell them firmly they are going into the bag, I imagine opening the bag putting the thought in it and then locking it. If it comes back I just say no not now back into the bag. Because the bag is magic it can never be filled. It doesn't always work but with the bag, music, hobbies, housework and grounding , somthing may stop it.

Good luck

Hi Moondust
For me writing down my intrusive thoughts was a great help especially after a therapy session. The written thoughts are useful to take to your T & discuss the contents, that way you have the opportunity of working through them, to make them less intrusive.

Cat's recommendation (writing down the intrusive thoughts) has worked very well for me. The only problem is, if you're at work or school you might be nervous about people finding/reading them.

I started writing them in Leet (1337) and that works pretty well! All most people see is a page filled with numbers and symbols and they don't attempt to translate it. You can learn Leet easily by doing a Google search for it. It's really fun to do in handwriting.

Example: 1 \ / \ / 4 / \ / 7 70 | ) ! 3 (I want to die)

If you know an ancient or foreign language, that works too. Not only will you be addressing the intrusive thoughts, but you will be exercising your mind as well!

I can recommend the movie Muppets From Space. So silly with so many ridiculous quotable quotes. It has helped me.
