You're right. I survived the shipwreck. Now I have to survive swimming all those dozens of miles to a tiny island just beyond the horizon, through really cold water, while shadows float around below me that may or may not be sharks. And then I'll have to survive living on that tiny island and I don't even know how to make a fire without matches or a lighter.

Someone once asked me why I was acting so strangely after I had just had a bad panic attack. So I was blunt and told them I just had a panic attack. The response I got: "You're an adult, so act like one. Adults don't panic and freak out like that."

I admit I was pissed off, but in realizing they were obviously uneducated on the subject of panic attacks, tried to explain it to them as best as I could. Watched them squirm like a worm, and they admitted they knew nothing about panic attacks or trauma and apologized.

Some people honestly just have no idea what they are talking about, so you shouldn't take ignorant comments to heart.

You're absolutely right. Still it's good to realise and to express that a comment crosses a line and makes you angry. Many here (though I can only speak for myself of course) have problems with minimisation and defending against it.

Also an otherwise healthy person can deal better with you getting angry than you can deal with having to be understanding of the ignorant all the f*cking time.

The one which I think has made me unable to show sad emotions, tears. This was said alot if I was upset when a child.

You made me realise how cynical that saying can be read. I mean, it tells you that no one is interested in you as soon as you're not funny anymore. No one will help you. You will die there, staring at the world's backs while they're shaking from laughing together with all the funny people who are not you.

That is, unless the world has a pretty twisted sense of humor. Then it will face you, laughing at you while you die...

I always want to answer, "what didn't kill me gave me ptsd". How can I be stronger, when some days I can barely leave my house?
