Cath you can celebrate Halloween in the pagan style yourself. You can even call it by its Pagan name of Samhain, pronounced "sow-ane". This actually starts at sunset on October 31st and runs until midnight on November 1st. Samhain is Irish Gaelic for November, marking the beginning of winter and is a time to look back on the past year and forward to the coming year.
Cooking a nice meal, one that one of your own ancestors would have enjoyed, is a way to celebrate in one of the old ways. Set an extra place at the table for them with a candle burning on the plate instead of the meal, and remember them with love.
So you can celebrate your own Halloween in style, ignoring all the commercial side of it all together.
