Halloween

Cath you can celebrate Halloween in the pagan style yourself. You can even call it by its Pagan name of Samhain, pronounced "sow-ane". This actually starts at sunset on October 31st and runs until midnight on November 1st. Samhain is Irish Gaelic for November, marking the beginning of winter and is a time to look back on the past year and forward to the coming year.

Cooking a nice meal, one that one of your own ancestors would have enjoyed, is a way to celebrate in one of the old ways. Set an extra place at the table for them with a candle burning on the plate instead of the meal, and remember them with love.

So you can celebrate your own Halloween in style, ignoring all the commercial side of it all together.

Thanks amethist,:)

I am actually a christian but I have strong pagan roots from Irish Celtic, Scottish Celt and Viking. I don't go to church but love God in my own way. I'd rather ignore Halloween altogether and Christmas. Too many bad memories. But I do enjoy Autumn, the colours in the trees, the frosty mornings and the Autumnal smell in the air. Long walks through the woods make it a special time and I guess I don't need anything else. Just finding a place to be at peace, watching the leaves fall off the trees, picking conkers and chestnuts and doing an Autumn display or collage helps me to celebrate the season.

I miss Halloween. We don't have it in Europe. I would have loved to carve a pumpkin and dress these boys up!! Also, decorating is fun. It's about the only holiday I don't have triggers around and I don't have it anymore!!

Oh that is such a good description of Autumn in England. I miss England.

Who'd have thought I would have missed the cold winter days but I really do. Cosy winter days. Crisp and cold on the outside, cosy and warm on the inside.
