My Dog Max Is Recovering

Oh dear... and I was marvelling to myself at how lucky you all were that said cone had not had to make an appearance.

He will regret it... unfortunately so will you, as there are few things more irritating than having a dog banging and crashing around in one of those things.

All for the greater good I suppose, and it is that time as the wound is healing that it starts to get itchy and oh so tempting.

Especially the banging into me, I will have bruised legs for Christmas. I think we will only need it when I am not there to watch him.

I always keep either preparation-H or neosporin with the pain stuff on wounds for my horses and dogs. I don't know if it will help with itching, but it might? Prep-H also keeps it from scarring. (As I learned when I had a T-bred who was CONSTANTLY getting dinged up in the pasture and would scar white fur if I didn't). rats.

Bad news folk. The wound didn't look right, even though it was fine on Friday. I've taken him to the vet again and it isn't healing. The skin is not bonding with the tissue underneath the wound, words like granulation, breaking down and infection.

He has to back into surgery tomorrow for the vets to have a good look.

The vet gave me a 'cone of shame' for him. He completely freaked out and destroyed it within 10 minutes. I just want to sit and comfort him. He is home now and H will take him in tomorrow morning.

KP for my foxhound, I had to fashion a cone out of a bucket (and then a 13 gallon trash can) with duct tape and the big 2 inch velcro strips because my dog figured out he could shatter the plastic. We cut it to size using the large E collar as a template with tin snips. Got you and your dog in my thoughts today.

Oh damit KP, I'm so sorry to hear this. Agree with Albatross about the fancy handiwork sometimes needed to keep these pooches in their buckets.

If you can keep him on a leash and with you until the vet tomorrow this may help - i know it's rather inconvenient at times, but it will allow you to watch him with an eagle eye and will also probably keep him calm.

Hoping so much this is just a minor temporary setback, will be keeping fingers and paws crossed for you all.

Maybe the vet can give you something to keep him slightly sedated so you can all get some rest and he won't be able to worry about it as he'll be doing alot of sleeping. You need a good two or three days so it can start healing. it sounds mean but can only help all ofyou.

When I am at home which I am a lot. He stays close to me anyway and sleeps with me. I have put one of my daughters old t shirts on him. He doesn't seem to mind that and it keeps his wound covered (it is a cotton t shirt so it can breathe).

H goes away on Wed until Saturday. So much still to do, this is one I didn't need.

The vet can't guarantee it won't happen again.

Thanks folk for caring, from a rather anxious KP
