Photos Of Nature Where You Live

I love the definition of the close up.

You can even see the heat sensing pits.

The eyes look a little cloudy to me - were they cloudy? That means the python will shed her/his skin in about three days.

Hey Ms spock, you are spot on, its eyes are clouded and about to shed. Found parts of its old skin about a week later.

Here's another from the other side.

Also get the smaller Diamond Pythons here, occasionally one will wander into the house and I'll gently take it outside again. They make great pest exterminators!

CraftyCath ... the bird in question is called a Common Loon. If you haven't heard its call/wail ... please search on the NET ... you'll be glad you did. I wait each season for them to migrate back up to Alaska.
May peace be with you always~

Hey Rick A.

Love that shot of the snake tangle. Would make a great desktop background.

I take it you are from Alaska, so fly fishing would be the go? Have seen docos about it on the television, magic looking streams, trout, salmon and bears!

Indeed I do live in Alaska (20 years) ... I spent the last two winters in Montana fly fishing the 'blue ribbon' rivers (Yellowstone, Madison). This year I'm staying home ... and it's the first Christmas Eve I've spent alone. Amazing how my cabin/SHIRE has visitors/friends when the salmon are in ... and when the snow falls ... they all disappear. Merry Christmas my friend.

a Common Loon.
Thanks Rick, we do get loons over here but the neighbors just think it's me!!!! :roflmao:

BTW, I was just watching a program about winter in Yellowstone and also David Atenborough's Frozen Planet which was amazing and covered some of your area. I absolutely love your cabin! Fancy swapping it for a 3 bed semi in rural England! :roflmao:

CathyCath ... Atenborough's voice is so sophisticated. We're blessed to have such a fine narrator. Yellowstone is my second home next to Alaska. I'll post a few pictures of my journeys. Sorry I don't have a VISA to travel out of country (USA) ... I have a list of people that want my cabin, my boat & my leather couch when I die. Want me to add you to the LIST? :-)

Great photo of the grebe Cath.

Rick, please could I go on your list :inlove::D:eek:. Do you have to 'cut' the snow off your roof to stop it becoming too heavy? I saw a film of a guy in Yellowstone whose job it was to cut snow off roofs, it looked awesome.

Sad to say the photo isn't one of mine, I can never get close enough.

I saw that guy cutting the snow KP, he was there for days, on his own and seemed to love it. I loved it when he showed us the pattern the snow makes when it overhangs the roof. (And then he gives an evil grin and destroys it!),
