Hello Anthony, crew and members.
I am a 36 year old woman living in Australia. I was only diagnosed with PTSD about five years ago, although I have had it since I was five, after seeking help many times for psychological problems. I also have OCD, dissociation and major depression. I have been under the care of the Psychiatrist who diagnosed me ever since. Because the trauma happened so young PTSD has become a part of my personality.
I was sexually abused by my father from around the age of five, physically, emotionally and verbally abused by my mother and step-father right up until I joined the army at 17. My mother knew about the sexual abuse that my aunty (who would babysit me when she was 12) and I were going through. She didn't end up divorcing my father until I was nine, and then she continued to put my safety at risk by sending me back to him on weekends for many years, until he moved to the other side of Australia.
My mother has always been very cold and distant, not showing the normal nurturing love and care a mother should show a daughter. She verbally, emotionally and physically abused me too, I have a feeling she resents me. My step-father was always telling me what a burden I was on his life, his idea of discipline was pinning me up against a wall by the throat with my feet dangling in mid air, as an example. The list goes on and on, I won't bore you with the details now.
I hope that this forum can provide me with some support and/or I can have an opportunity to help others with their issues. I am doing ok, I have very supportive partner whom I adore, however I do not have any close friends. Hopefully this forum can fill in the void.
Thank you for listening, in this case reading, lol.
Regards, Lav
