What Bad Use Of Grammar Annoys You?

I'll be the first to hold my hands up and say my grammar/spelling is not perfect. But I sometimes see or hear something and it bugs me.

Double negatives annoy me. For instance, 'I don't want to do nothing'.

My daughter when she was much younger once said to me, 'Mum, I don't want to take nothing to Auntie Helens'. I tried to correct her by saying, 'no, sweetie, I don't want to take anything to Auntie Helens'. She looked at me and immediately replied 'no, I don't either'. :roflmao::inlove:.

Oh well, you win some you lose some.

What annoys you?

I'm an English Literature major, so I cringe every time I see this stuff going on. I also hate when people don't spell their words right. It's so *shudders* I need a moment.

I'm not so bugged by errors in English since it's not my native language and I'm simply not as sensitive here - though stuff like their/there/they're mix-ups are kind of painful to me, too.

But what really ticks me off is when apostrophes are over used in German. Ever since our two 'new' orthographies tried to make things easier (by legislating a lot of wrong spelling to be right -.-), an increasing number of people uses apostrophes to cut off not only genitive-s (which is correct in English but still wrong in German), but plural-s, too! Like ladie's and menue's and two piece's of paper, it hurts so badly!

Do those people even think about what an apostrophe means? Because in German it only ever means 'here one or more letters were omitted'. Only ever!

To protest, I don't use any apostrophes at all when I'm writing in German. Hah.

I study English, and performance too. But I'm not a stickler for spelling and grammar being strictly correct, because I enjoy the expression of the character behind the language.

Everyone has something interesting to express to the world. I can work around spelling.

But, the things that Ayesha points out get to me. But thats because I can't understand or take in what's being said.

What does annoy me though, is when people write in text speak, or jamenglish etc and when you say you don't understand, they claim that this is how they always speak and have no idea how to communicate any other way.

My daughter came out with one today....OMLG. I said what does that mean, she said 'Oh my ladygaga'. I think thats great:D
