I have been taking minipress for a few years now, my experience has been very good. My nightmares have reduced in number and in intensity, however I still experience nightmares, they are just not as intense.
My psychiatrist sent me to a neurologist for a sleep study and he has determined that along with PTSD nightmares I also am experiencing REM sleep disorder, this is part of the reason for the extreme reality in my dreams. However, the content is very in line with my past trauma and so there is no real way to separate the two things (PTSD/REM) in any concrete kind of way. So now I take klonapin and minipress at night. It seems to be helping, but I still get some nightmares.
