I have been taking minipress for a few years now, my experience has been very good. My nightmares have reduced in number and in intensity, however I still experience nightmares, they are just not as intense.

My psychiatrist sent me to a neurologist for a sleep study and he has determined that along with PTSD nightmares I also am experiencing REM sleep disorder, this is part of the reason for the extreme reality in my dreams. However, the content is very in line with my past trauma and so there is no real way to separate the two things (PTSD/REM) in any concrete kind of way. So now I take klonapin and minipress at night. It seems to be helping, but I still get some nightmares.

Well I'm glad some people have noticed a difference, because for me it didn't do sh*t...it just goes to show every person is different...I'm just a labrat, I've probabley been on 20-30+ medications and the good majority were "off label" unfounded bulllshit that is based on minimal research, the VA loves to experiment on the people they "treat", you didn't think that Disability Compensation didn't come with a price, did you? You're nothing but research and a stat to them, IMO

I have found prozosin to be working for me. I just started a little over a week ago and am on a low does but I have seen gains already. I have acutually slept through the night once. I have less problems getting to sleep and the nightmares are less and less intense.

I know that this is just a short time for a real evaluation of the medication but so far so good. I also find that I have been a little calmer during the day. Maybe from a little more sleep, maybe from the medication, I'm not sure. But sofar it has been worth the trial for me.

Just 1 mg but I react strongly to some meds. A benydyl can knock me out for a few hours. The biggest benifit has been the getting to sleep. If I take it and lie down I can get to sleep within an hour and that is a miracle for me.

I took this medication for awhile. I loved it! It was so helpful. I had to stop taking it because it dropped my blood pressure. I was on it for 4 years. It helped so much with nightmares.

great sleep and nightmares gone on prazosin but blood pressure too low in day lathargic dizzy almost passing out ... any similar drugs that don't lower blood pressure? curious if many women out there with ptsd also have crazy low blood pressure (i've heard it is from the "freeze" part of fight/flight?)?

I am taking Fludroc to raise my blood pressure, which helps me to manage my other meds which tend to lower it. It's really helped a lot.

I'm not sure they would have prescribed it if I didn't already have a condition causing low blood pressure prior to taking the meds, but it might be something to ask your doctor about.

I got it prescribed by my cardiologist.

I had high blood pressure benign for years actually the last 5 years it has been controlled to the low side. My Psych Doctor had to check with the General Practitioner to get permission to take the Prazosin. It lowers blood pressure for sure. It seems to help with the sleep and anxiety. Only on 25 mg at night. I still dream. I read on a post above you didn't dream? I will try to check back after a month.

I take propranolol, not this drug. Its also a blood pressure medication, but a weaker one. I'm on a very low dose, too. And no, I don't really have nightmares anymore in the first half of the night (it only lasts 4 hours). If I wake up in the middle of the night and then go back to sleep, I sometimes dream.
