I think the problem is that we are so used to the weather being pretty nondescript and easy to cope with, we aren't prepared for the heat. Just as in the winter, when a particularly cold spell hits, we are not prepared for it.
Motorways have been melting, and train tracks buckling, due to the heat. Neither homes or offices (or the London underground!) have air conditioning, because the costs can't be justified for a few hot weeks every 10-30 years!
We have lots of nondescript weather, neither too hot, or too cold, too dry or too wet. Every so often we are caught out by extremes, and neither the infrastructure or individuals can deal with it. Every so often we have a weather crisis - snow, heat, floods, drought.
I don't know about others, but I'd be happy with a steady 20 - 24 degrees C (0 humidity), with a gentle breeze by day, followed by about 12 degrees C at night with plenty of rain to water the plants, flowers and crops. I think that would suit me just fine. Is that too much to ask?
