This is what my therapist calls learning to be emotionally vulnerable. Throw myself out there in hopes that if I start talking, I will start feeling. I don't remember much of my life before nine. I know some of what mom thinks is funny and tells people. I know I was kicked out of the car on the freeway when I was 5 because I called my mom a name. I guess the funny part was me chasing the car screaming. She came back for me a couple hours later.

I remember my brother and his friends locking me in the car with them and smoking enough pot to get me high and dumping me out in the middle of nowhere. Nobody came back for me. I have no emotions other than anger. I do not cry, not because it is a sign of weakness for me, but because it is a sign of weakness for others. If I cried when I was younger, my brothers would beat the shit out of my.

My mother manufactured drugs so there were a lot of drug dealers, gangs and random other people around the house. As I got older, I could not cry because the people my mom let have me would make my life much worse. Everything was more intense, objects being used in the rape, getting burned with a cigarette or getting cut. 30-35 years ago there was no saving grace. Besides as a top manufacturer, my mother was feared. Nobody crossed her, even a stranger.

I can't wear anything around my wrists, ankles, I freak over needles (although I'm doing better with those), my car window has to be open even when it's raining. I haven't really slept in a while. I was taking meds to knock out the dreams, but they caused me to sleepwalk. I talked to the psychiatrist recently and told him I decided dreaming about someone in a rage catching me and cutting my arm off with the serrated part of a knife was better than almost burning the house down in my sleep, so I don’t take those meds anymore.

Every night is a struggle. I was drugged, raped and beaten from the age of 9 to 13/14. My brother made numerous attempts to kill me. Starting at around 9, my mother started selling me out pretty regularly. My mom left me at 15 and I started the phase 2 of my life…on the streets.

Phase 2-4 (which I will discuss in time) were just as bad…I have made one bad decision after the other. Between packing my son up and moving him across country over and over again, I found myself constantly struggling with just supporting my child both physically and mentally, I was always putting him I in bad positions.

I'm in part 5. I am 40 years old and have stopped running. I have an MBA with a concentration in healthcare mgmt, a bachelor of science in criminal justice, more titles than u can put on a card. I have a house, 2 cars, a daughter, a good man and now…now, I'm spending the majority of my days thinking of suicide. Now that I am at a place where I feel safe and have become extremely successful, all the past has reared its ugly head and I am suffering from numerous issues, primarily PTSD.

Welcome Ghostybear!

guess the funny part was me chasing the car screaming.

Sorry You had to experience so much. I am sorry but I see no humor in a mother leaving her child alone on a freeway. I want to hug that little person who suffered. It must have been terrifying. You have had so much abandonment I am not surprised you remember little before 9. You have arrived. You are in therapy and I hope you have an excellent trauma therapist. You are here no longer alone. Best wishes on your healing journey!

Some what, I still have days. I still sleep walk but not as much. I still have nightmares, nut not as bad as before. I'm not saying it all just disappears one day but it'll take a lot of effort and time. Some days for me , are just plain bad. Sometimes its weeks at a time I feel the same as you. But I keep I mind that if I keep it together for a while longer, I can make it through that day or week. this might sound weird but think of the Beatles song jude. the lyric "take a sad song and make it better', it helps me sometimes.

I feel like I'm in the same boat as you here Ghostybear73. I don't remember much of my life before the age of 13, it's why I started therapy this time around actually - to remember. I'm also in the beginning stages of therapy and I'm also trying to learn to be emotionally vulnerable.

I do not cry, not because it is a sign of weakness for me, but because it is a sign of weakness for others.
I also understand this. For me it is also a crippling fear, because crying is making myself vulnerable. It's not good though because everything gets shoved back down to avoid crying, not healthy and causes a lot of harm.

Everything was more intense, objects being used in the rape, getting burned with a cigarette or getting cut.
I'm sorry you had to live through that Ghostybear.

Me too Ghostybear, I've moved to a place where my abuser can't find me but my emotional problems have caught up with me. I can't hide behind active abuse anymore, being forced to face the truth of what has happened. Many of us are fighting similar fights Ghostybear, we are here to support you when you want it. You are a strong person for surviving what you have.

Thank you all for the support. However, I am not sure how this is supposed to help. I have no problem talking about my past here, its in the real world I don't talk about it. I do talk to my therapist. Somtimes he will hit a sore subject and I will shut down, but at least I'm talking. I just don't like people in general so I don't associate with them. I wanted to try group therapy, but I guess I'm not ready. He doesn't want to put me into a group until I learn to talk, otherwise it has no benefit for me.

@Ghostybear73 I don't seem to have too much trouble talking here either. My problem is in therapy. I'm very nervous and very afraid. I find that when I write about it here, or ask questions here first it is easier in therapy. I've had a lot of good suggestions from other users here - one of them being to write letters to my T (I have trouble verbalizing without dissociating) then hand them to her. It's also nice to know you aren't alone in all of this.

Can not believe what you have been through.

I don't know why this happens. Just bad after bad. Nothing good . no one protecting the children that deserve care & safety.

now you made it through this. you are brilliant and had what it takes to adapt. now what's left is a sequence of patterns to be unraveled... to dislodge true wisdom and peace that you've had all along, but due to the detours in the mind around the emotional self, have not had access

Hi Ghostybear,

Welcome to MyPTSD forum! :)

It is difficult to open up and confront the past, especially when a person is not sure the people they open up to will really understand. This is a great place to begin to open up and a good step in making the transition to therapy.

I hope you find this site beneficial to your healing.

Wishing you the best.

Debbie

I'm not sure why it helps, but I can tell you it *really* does help to share here on the forum. Part of it is because so many people understand what you're going through. They can really empathize. Sometimes IRL people don't understand why you're having a bad day, and you come here and everyone says, "Oh, yeah, that happens to me, too. Did you try this?" The validation and support are great.

I am so sorry for everything you went through. It's just all so terrible. I'm so sorry.

Welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the forum. So much of your story rings true to me and as helped me recognise some things about myself I hadn't really realised before.
so there were a lot of drug dealers, gangs and random other people around the house
This was an enormous issue for me, except my father was only a user, but I feared him and his dealer more than anyone will ever know. I was repeatedly raped and gang-raped, when I wouldn't stay still or quiet, I would be hit (only once to my recollection), drugged (repeatedly), and held down by a machete. Even when I wasn't being raped, I was the objectified by a room full of pot smokers who thought it was hilarious that I was terrified between the ages of 11 and 15. I never understand how people think that pot is a harmless drug, pot is equally as bad in my eyes as other drugs because it causes such a lack of judgement.

I can't wear anything around my wrists, ankles, I freak over needles (although I'm doing better with those)
I didn't realise this - I never wear any jewellery, watches or anything else like this around my wrists/ankles, it makes me feel claustrophobic and trapped but I can't work out why. I too am terrified of needles and find it an utter nightmare having to have a blood test, I usually keep this inwardly hidden but that doesn't mean I'm not scared or ready for the worst every time I see one.

I do get nightmares, less now, but I do very little and try to lead a stress free a life as possible and take medication for it, but they flare up and then meds don't help. I have been hospitalised - I'm pretty sure I was supposed to hate it and don't get me wrong there were a few things I wasn't to keen on, but it felt safe and necessary at that time, but before I got to the hospital I managed to carve my arms and legs into a complete and utter mess of very permanent scars.

The forum isn't really there to help directly, but indirectly. For me, I'm so isolated it reminds me I'm human. There are also a lot of people who care here, making it a nice and fairly safe environment. It also helps me understand aspects of myself like above, I had never really realised how much I have an issue with things being on my wrists bothers me until I read that someone else does too and it helps me understand. Especially with things that aren't easy to talk about to most "normal" people - like aspects of dissociation - feeling disconnected from myself, reality, the world and time. It gives me a lot of reading material and of experiences as well, which otherwise are not easy to come by. It gives me a place to voice over things before I had a therapist and now I have one before my sessions to help me with what I want to say. It's a place you can come to and ask anything and you won't be judged, you may want to use it once in a blue moon or daily, it's up to you, but no matter how often or not you decide to come, you'll always be welcome. Don't expect miracles though, just by being here not everything will magically stop - I don't mean to sound patronising with that, but only reassuring. Good luck.
