Without knowing too much, I must say my first inclination would be to show him the door. If he can pick out the problems, then he can fix them. You have to love him, but you don't have to like him. If he doesn't live with you, call display and a peep hole. And Patagonia sounds amazing. For me, I would escape to warmer climes. ;)

I am not sure what is going on?

Did your son send you text messages all night? Can you turn your phone off when you go to bed?

@SweetLullaby
No, my son does not live with me. Hence the texting. He lives with his father.

@Ms Spock
Turned off the cell phone when the tone was declared. All those vulgar texts awaited in the morning at $0.20 per text on my pre-pay plan. Wish my plan let me block numbers...

Wow. Can you change the number on your plan? It would be worth your peace of mind to get a new number. You do not need vitriol, and you certainly should not be paying for it.

I do not know what I mean on that score. Mental health pros have told me my tendency to efficient action worries them on either score. There are folks whose breaking points tend to be unexpected and unpredictablly pointed...

I get what you mean. I suspect that was what was behind my T's comment (said with SOME humor) about his preference that I not visualizing scenarios involving firearms. Funny, to a point, but not really.

Interesting that you mention moving a lot. Actually, the whole "running away from home" theme struck a chord. I've moved a LOT. I like it. I actually kind of like "starting over". I never really thought about there being a reason for it, but maybe there is.

As far as your son's "failure to launch", I don't know and totally can't understand his world view. I'm pretty sure his life isn't going to get any better until he decides to do something to make it better. And, only HE can do that.

That doesn't help YOU very much though! Sorry!! I hope things settle down, but it sounds like you have a LOT to deal with, besides him. Take good care of yourself!

@scout86
I was raised gypsy, keeping my charming papa one step ahead of the law. Swore I wouldn't raise my own kids that way and stayed put where I discovered my first pregnancy. I was 25 and had never had a home. Been hard, staying put. Truly I feel like I am running away TO home when I hit the road. To quote the old English folk ballad, "It looks like I'm never gonna lose my wandering ways."

Yup, my son has to work out his issues on his own, regardless of where he acquired those issues. He hasn't been a kid for a very long time. Still, it is allot easier to dump a husband than to dump a son... I think. Still on my first husband, but the townies sure make divorce look easy, if your into that sort of thing. The new and improved Barbie™ comes with GI Joe™ and all Ken's™ stuff.

FYI not all phones have the ability to block numbers. The iPhone didn't until about 3 months ago with the introduction of iOS7 unless you were to jailbreak your phone (a potential headache in itself and then you still had to pay $15 for the block app). My brothers phone actually LOST the ability to block numbers when he upgraded. I know AT&T charges $5.99 per month for the service if you go thru them if you don't have a phone that can block numbers.
