Yes. I am still seeing them now but I don't understand how I can have it because the incident happened when I was 16. I am 21 now is that possible? But I have been noticing that I get very distressing memories from the incident half of me feels like I have not let go and the other half of me feels like I have tried my best to move on do you have any advice.

Many Thanks

I'm just overwhelmed by it all. I thought I was over it since i am 21 now and it happened when I was 16. I just came on here for guidance or support or someone to talk to.

Awe, sweety, as you get older, your brain goes through changes. You become more mature. As you go over your past, things you did not understand & things which were really traumatic pop up. PTSD is like a full circle; you think you are over it or that your "past is behind you," you do well for a while, and then the confusion and despair sets in all over again.

I really hope you are able to keep up on the therapy, as a T is like a vital tool for sufferers of PTSD. A T can help you to better understand what it is that you are going through.

And, of course, you do have us to talk to and share with.

Do not beat yourself up. It has only been 4-5 years since this event happened. That really is not that long ago. You have to give yourself lots of time. As you hit 22, 23, 24, you will handle it better each year.

The short answer is 'Yes'
"Post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms typically start within three months of a traumatic event. In a small number of cases, though, PTSD symptoms may not appear until years after the event." from [DLMURL]http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/post-traumatic-stress-disorder/DS00246/DSECTION=symptoms[/DLMURL] but you'll find similar said in lots of places.

If you read through some of other people's threads and stories here too, you will find lots of people who are dealing now with trauma that happened years ago. Sometimes people maybe don't recognise that they have PTSD from trauma until something else happens in their life that triggers the symptoms to become worse, or it may be misdiagnosed as depression or anxiety or something.

Have you spoken to your therapist about your confusion over their diagnosis? They might be able to help clarify their thinking behind it for you?

Hi Chelle, welcome to the forum. There are a lot of good people here with lots of informations and a willingness to offer support and guidance.

Speaking from my own experience, my traumas were cumulative and I wasn't aware of the effects or how they had affected me until late into my twenties. So yes the symptoms could just now be presenting.
