If legalized, yes!!!! Cannabis oil that is high in Cannabadiol (CBD) and low in THC has been used to treat PTSD, and I would be willing to try it. There is a medicinal strain of marijuana called "God's gift" that has also been used to treat PTSD and I would be willing to give it a try as well, (although I would prefer to ingest or vaporize it as opposed to smoking).

*If I understand correctly, certain strains of marijuana ie; Indica can make PTSD symptoms worsen, while Sativa strains help relieve symptoms. *(please correct me if I am wrong, I sometimes get the 2 strains confused).

Dee Morris -

I was posting my opinion about a poll on this thread. Please do not take this personally and please don't make assumptions about me from a couple of posts. I can appreciate the differences that everyone has, and I even stated in my previous post that I understand everyone is different, and what works for me doesn't work for everyone. I don't appreciate being told that I am "uncomfortable in my own skin" just because I suffer from an addiction. I have undergone a lot of scrutiny from my peers because of what I was addicted to, but I don't think that it's okay for someone on a support forum to tell me that my addiction is because of my personal flaws.

I respect your right to smoke pot if you want to, or do whatever you wish. I answered this poll honestly, and maybe my answer will help someone, maybe it won't. I stopped doing drugs because it was ruining my life. If you feel that it improves your life, then that's great and I'm happy for you, seriously. I apologize if my responses upset you in some way, but can you please respect the fact that I suffer from an addiction, was expressing my opinion and didn't mean to upset anyone? Because quite honestly I felt pretty hurt and attacked by what was said to me.

@Lionheart777: Cannabis has several psychoactive and medically relevant compounds, including THC and CBD, which have different effects.

CBD cancels out the "high" effect of THC to a degree, and acts like a sedative. Indicas, which typically have more CBD than sativas, are better for people who tend to get paranoid while high (caused by THC, I think), or for people who like having the sedative effects (so, for instance, insomniacs). Though it's hard to find unless you have access to a medical dispensary that specifically carries it, there are high-CBD strains that have virtually no THC. These strains feel more like valium to me than like traditional cannabis. It doesn't make me "high" per se--but it does make me calmer, sometimes even on the groggy side.

Sativa strains, which are traditionally lower in CBD than are indicas, are favored specifically for their non-sedative effects. People claim it helps with depression, for instance.

I have used indicas, sativas, and CBD strains. At least for me, all help with PTSD symptoms. And, the side effects are easier for me to tolerate than for benzos or antidepressants. Ideally, I'd like to be off all drugs, but cannabis seems to be the best fit for me for now.

I recently started using marijuana for pain and PTSD. I live in WA state, so I have no legal worries. I use an indica with 17% THC which is very low and high in CBDs. It is what I've always wished for - something that would take away my pain with no "high" feelings. I've been sleeping longer and I'm not as anxious. The only problem is that is costs a lot for me. My prescriptions are completely covered. I read an article which said that using a functional MRI, ( scan ) that patients with PTSD have more receptors in the brain for CBDs. I was told that for PTSD, it is best to ingest it, so I use it with tea, or make cannabutter. I use a medical grade now, which works so much better!

Vulnera... you are being sensitive and taking what I said personally. I was not accusing YOU of being insecure in your own skin nor was I making assumptions about you. Not my problem you took it that way and I don't appreciate being attacked by you because of your misconception.

In fact... I just reread my post several times and NO WHERE in it did I say that YOU are just insecure in our own skin. In fact what I said verbatim is that if I...notice I said the word I... were less secure in my own skin. Nowhere in my thread did I apply that you. In fact, I don't see how what I said was in any way an assumption about you. And now I'm pissed off...

And while I'm on a roll..... Show me where I said your addiction was due to your own flaws? Don't put words in my mouth. There is NOTHING in my post that even came close to insinuating that. In fact, my post, from my perspective, was nothing but supportive of you doing what works best for you and your personal situation. Seriously?

Dude, to clarify, I said "I'm sure it works for others I guess, but... made things much worse for me. It's like everything else, depends on the person." and you addressed a post to me and said "If I were less secure in my own skin and sensitive to potential addiction, I might feel the same way." Insinuating that you would feel the same as me, which is that I have an addiction. That is what I had a problem with. But you know what if people here are going to act this way and it's "okay" or whatever, and it's apparently NOT okay for me to express how I'm feeling about something, then I'm out. I don't need this crap.

I didn't imply anything. I was talking about myself and YOU decided to make it about you. Here's a clue... not everything is about you.

Thanks for all the info!!! I think I would do best with high CBD strains or oil at night to help insomnia and lower CBD strains (higher THC) during the day, but I am just guessing as I don't have access to a medicinal marijuana dispensary ....just yet. *(Although my state is pushing for new medical marijuana laws).

I am like you and would like to be off all drugs but, ...until such time, I like cannabis for my PTSD symptoms, (much better than benzos, which "zombie-tize" me). :wtf: I don't like and can't drink alcohol because of all the meds I take (for various conditions)!!! I need a medicine that isn't full of unhappy side-effects.

Due to my PTSD, marijuana induced psychotic symptoms and extreme paranoia that I still struggle with, and this was on top of my already very heightened paranoia. Bad experience all around. I just numbed everything out, so now I have even more work to do to heal :(
I can relate with you, same thing that happened to me, what sucks is I used to smoke before my ptsd and I would feel great but kept doing it after and it screwed me up.
