New Here
Hi Everyone,
I am here because I need some help, but not like you might be thinking. For one thing I hope to make some friends that will last a lifetime, but another reason I am at this site is because I think I can be a good support system for those who find themselves needing one.

However I must tell you, that I do not have any form of PTSD, I am here to understand it though. Furthermore, I have been granted permission to conduct a Research Project on this site. My reasearch project will primarily on PTSD and Domestic Violenece, but I plan to incorporate other causes and treatments of PTSD as well.

I hope all you are having a great day...and I can't wait to get to know each of you.

There are lots of people come here to do research. But I don't understand what is driving your plan to make friends for life and be a support system.

People support each other here, and it is that shared understanding and the expertise of those who have actually experienced similar things that creates a supportive community. More so, it is the equality of this nature of support network that provides the greatest advantage. To come in with a self formed plan that you're going to be a support network for people is putting yourself in the 'savior' role. This instantly diminishes the equality that is required for genuine support. Support based on ignorance can be detrimental to people with PTSD and make them quite ill.

Perhaps it might be better for you to simply learn about abuse and PTSD before you decide that you can be supportive.

I also agree your approach may seem a bit odd, but welcome nonetheless. I think research and education are an essential part of most solutions, so that is a definite positive.

Edit: I can't speak for everyone, but I know I definitely deal with trust issues. It's the nature of the beast.

Are you a student? Are you in academia? Or are you in the professional world of drug treatments? What makes y ou interested in PTSD specifically? in this forum specifically?

Am I asking too many questions? sorry if I am... you don't have to answer, I'm just curious.

I hope you stick around and get to know us, before you make a commitment. It will mean so much more if you get to know us first and then say you want to have friends here for a lifetime.

Either way, welcome.

Hi and welcome,
Can you please explain more about your research. Is this for a graduate school project? I'm just curious.

As others have stated, I'm also curious as to why you're looking to be a supporter. It seems a little...different...to me, but who am I to judge? I think that most of us question this because we have ALL had someone leave us or at the very least distance themselves from us, and there are many of us who have lost a lot of people because of this darn disorder, not to mention the fact that a supporter REALLY has to want to support us in order to stay in our lives.

I hope I haven't offended you, as that wasn't my intent. I'm just curious, that's all :)

Yeah, as Solara said, you really have to want to do this, and it strikes some of us as odd that you want that w/o having any idea what you're getting in to. All the supporters I've ever heard of (not counting mental health professionals) stumbled into the role unaware and maybe somewhat less than willingly. It was something that dropped on them from a great height. They are usually significant others, family members, and such.

Furthermore, I have been granted permission to conduct a Research Project on this site.
You haven't been granted anything other than the same as all other researchers who want to post a study / are researching something with PTSD, which you can do so within the research and study forum only, asking members for feedback IF they choose to give it, is up to them. Your post is bordering on something else, as though you believe you have consent to study members here or such, which is incorrect.

I understand I realized that I was in the wrong place when I hit the post. I am sorry about that, It will not happen again. Sorry for the inconvenience, and at the same time, I had lost what I was going to say when I typed that...apparently I was confused. Again I am sorry, and posting in the wrong place won't happen again.

Thanks for your time.

I agree with @Justmehere. Please do confine your research to the responses you get when you post your questions in the right place. We would be nothing more than lab rats otherwise. As a fellow researcher, in another field altogether, I know how important it is to gain permission to cite other people's writing and how vital it is to avoid plagiarism. But I'm sure you're aware of that, too. Looking forward, all that said to hearing what your thesis is and how we can help you.
