News Study: Yelling At Children Has Similar Effects To Physical Abuse

Let's just be clear here Nadia, the news item that you posted did not have anything to do with emotional abuse. The focus group was middle school aged children with "okay" or average parental relations.

If this was something you experienced, you could have said so in your initial post. Even the source article for your new link does not say it's emotional abuse however - they call it "harsh verbal discipline" and note that the use of this can exacerbate problem behaviors in adolescents.

Perhaps this would have been better off elsewhere than news, politics, and debates.
For me it is not meant to be a debate. That was not my intention by posting this. I was just showing my relief, in hearing that attention is being given to how "harsh verbal discipline," which in my eyes, is emotional abuse, is not acceptable.

If this was something you experienced, you could have said so in your initial post.
Why is this important Alba? I see that you have found the study lacking, which is fine by me. Studies like this are never final statements, more like questions being answered by more questions. There are limits to every study, but there is possibility of seeing the positive side of this undertaking and it's results... don't you think?

I'm certain that with a google search I could find 5 studies that would be more appropriate. What is the positive side of this news link?

That even middle school aged children with "okay" parental relations that are not in high risk situations for abuse are susceptible to "harsh verbal discipline" and "may" give them depression and symptoms of things that mirror physical abuse because it is not effective to counter behavioral problems in adolescents in this manner as the result appears to be more behavioral problems???? Okay.

Okay, maybe this thread can be used to post those more appropriate studies you mention. Thanks for the input Alba.
