So long story short, I'm pretty sure I will be fired by the end of the week. I took an amazing freelance opportunity that allowed me to travel and work for two weeks instead of attending a board meeting and it's being held against me.
I was also called a liar by my boss (this came out in conversation about some other related things) and it's now my word against his. Given that he's my superior, I won't win this game.
Now I'm terrified about getting fired and never getting rehired by anyone else due to the bad recommendation.
Does anyone have any stories to share where getting fired led to good things? New opportunities? Better job? I'd rather not turn this into a "bosses suck" thread, because I already know that sometimes they do! But any stories of positive outcomes in this situation would be extremely welcome and help me hold my head high for the next few days as they decide whether to keep me or get rid of me.
