News And People Wonder Why Sufferers Get Frustrated

Uhm....ok.

One, he says something along the lines of PTSD---Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTS---Post Traumatic Stress as its now called... The two were never synonymous in that the disorder is the FULL blown shebang and PTS can mean you are displaying symptoms but don't have the full blown shebang. Is that something that is in the military world in order to divert away from the full blown diagnosis (and prevent $$$ payouts). Yeah, they've been doing it for years and it wouldn't surprise me that this sort of slight of hand is something that they'd do!

Two, it doesn't sound right to say that PTSD is contracted. (Is this just me?) You contract a disease. He makes it sound like you can catch it from someone else! If someone isn't familiar with the acronym, then throwing it out there as being "contracted" automatically makes people think of a communicable disease, not a mental disorder. No one would say "contracted depression" or "contracted schizophrenia". And, just because you have a trauma doesn't mean you will get PTSD. He's asking a dumb, dumb, DUMB question, because the answer to how do you prevent yourself from contracting PTSD would be something along the lines of "lots of support after a trauma". How would ANYONE know that unless you're on the inside already? (And even tons of support doesn't prevent you from getting the disorder.)

There are stupid people anywhere, and if you walk along the streets and ask enough people, you'll get enough dumb answers to make a clip like that. I don't blame the people responding as I know there are disorders out there which I don't know about. And again, they were asked an incredibly poorly worded question! I blame the makers of that clip for creating something so stupid.

I wouldn't read too much into that with regards to PTSD specifically.

There's actually a genre of youtube videos, asking people on the street questions, and them responding as though completely brain dead.

A good example would be Mark Dice and his fake petitions: eg "outlaw the bill of rights", "introduce and Orwellian police state", "Karl Marx for president" and even a petition headed "I am a complete idiot". People sign them and say that they agree with them. Or in the case of the "I'm an idiot" hardly any even look at the header of the sheet

There's an interesting question of why it appears to be so easy to find so many completely shallow, uninformed and incurious individuals, both sides of the political aisle, and there are probably a few dozen PhD projects in that question - not that you'd ever get funding.

Have a quick sample through some of Mark Dice' vids
I wouldn't bother with his other playlists - there are more than enough perverse incentives in statism to account for the problems we see without needing to invoke conspiracies like illuminati running things behind the scenes (humans can't run things that well anyway, and no, I don't think that observation justifies invoking the presence of shape shifting lizards! ).

did get irritated by his misleading use of the word 'contracting' as if it is infectious
I'd guess that was deliberate to lead people who weren't familiar with the PTSD in the direction of disease/STD.

That combined with only editing the dumbest responses into the final cut for 'entertainment' purposes .... I wouldn't get too wound up by it and assume these are widely held views or responses. There's nowhere to say how many people he had to ask to get the ones he wanted - I don't think that sensible considered responses were what he was looking for for the purpose if this video ;)

I actually think the most worrying thing about it was what he said at the end about it being known just as PTS now and not PTSD? Misinformation from the guy slating people for being misinformed?

Thank you for sharing @BlackbirdSinging

@Lucycat I think people don't bother to learn unless they fall in ptsd. Agree with you. Sad to see, this is similar approach for other problems of life. When people hear the word problem, you may see them going away. Then again it is tough to have understanding for all other problems.

I guess at least family members, close friends, spouses should show interest to learn that. Question should be in relation to this, not the overall. Not everyone can learn everything.

There might be another way to have survey
A genuine survey yes, this video has nothing to do with surveys though. It's a just a juvenile method of humiliating people through exposing their ignorance in the name of amusement or entertainment, which some people will be amused or entertained by and some wont. It has nothing to do really, in my opinion, with PTSD or attempting to gauge people's understanding of that and is not accurately representative of that or intending to be.
The aim of the video is not to find out what people know about PTSD, or raising awareness of it, or any other chosen subject come to that, it's to get people to say dumb shit and expose them doing it for a cheap laugh and some YouTube hits.
