Do you have a song that gives you strength to go on, when things are feeling really hard work with your "sufferer"?

She by Anneke van Giersbergen is that song, for me. Very empowering, especially this bit:

"But she, she won’t let him waste away,
She will have something to say"

and

"He knows she’ll breathe fire
Whenever he lets go.
He knows she’ll be tired
Although she’ll still be ‘round."

What's your supporter song?

I know Joey by Concrete Blonde was written about an alcoholic but it always sounds to me like she's singing about her guy with PTSD.

NIghtminds by Missy Higgins is another one.

If your sufferer is a combat vet then Ted Egan's Song for Grace is haunting - its a girl singing about the effect of WW1 on her brothers - there is a line about one brother who is 'shell shocked and better off dead'.

The song that reduces me to floods of tears each and every time I hear it but I love it is Poster Girl by Beccy Cole. Beccy went to Afghanistan to entertain the troops and got hate mail for it. The song is her response.

I shook hands with a digger

On the wrong side of the world

With a wife at home who holds her breath

And brand new baby girl

And the digger fights for freedom in a job that must be done

And I let go of his hand, so proud to be Australian

She makes such a good point where she says:

And I admire the burning fire that causes you to fight

I only wish the wrong side of the world had the same right

And the part where she talks about the widows and the orphans.

Our boys did so much good in places like East Timor. Have you seen the movie Balibo? My man was one of the first on the ground in Timor. It took us 25 years but we finally sent troops and conducted the most successful peace keeping mission in UN history. Why do most Australians know nothing about that?

I...

I know we did some amazing work in Timor - especially helping build the communities back up afterward, but yes, I'd agree that few Aussies know the details. The awareness just isn't there.

I can't remember the tune @Milo's papa , I shall have to listen to it again. :)

I still like "What if" ('What if You Were Me & I Was You?') by Five For Fighting. To remember I never know what others are battling. And, what I am battling. I can't copy the lyrics but they're incorporated in the video (I like it):

ETA, it doesn't make any presumptions, 'what if I had your heart, what if you wore my scars, ..what if I cried your tears, what if you cried with my eyes'. I think/ feel that way. It's hopeful though. I like that. And it's true (JMHO).

(PS, read the newspaper in the video, it's very cool. :) )
