Antidepressants can help- I was quite confused, those three or four days of thinking about suicide were there for so long that I was actually frightened until I did some math. I don't do math if I can avoid it, I really thought something might be wrong with me. Not sure which antidepressant is doing it but I take remeron, wellbutrin and pristiq.
I think it was lizio who posted a link in the SSRI do no harm thread, to a clinical trial where 11 of those on SSRI became suicidal compared to one on placebo. Clinical trials usually screen for suicidality and avoid enrolling anyone who is suicidal.
I'm not going to knock anyone who gets relief from taking SSRIs, but the trials data suggests that they are typically within 5% as effective as a sugar pill for depression. Other effects, such as suicide tend not to be reported.
