I'm feeling really lonely. All I do is go to work then come home and sit around the house. I really want to get back into the world but I'm scared of people . Before my latest trauma I was dating and socializing with people. Now I'm scared to even talk to people. My brain seems so muddled. I'm scared my words won't come out right. I know dating is out of the question but even going out with other women seems improbable. Any suggestions?

Greetings,

Contemplate something like meetup.com where you might find low-impact and low-key activities listed that center around a shared interest sans the unbearably high expectations of something like a date. Be open-minded, carry in no specific hopes, and demonstrate some trust consistent with sharing a few words with other people roughly aligned around a common topic. Walking groups, game groups, yoga groups, film groups, museum groups, etc. exist - although different locales (i.e. urban vs. suburban) are hosted there, whereas in a great many instances no strict charge applies; i.e. just show up. If drifting into a community church isn't strictly you, then meetup.com might be just what you need. Bring up the website for typing in the obvious, further type in a postal code and/or topic of interest, and see where the process carries you. You'll not be the first who has done this, whereas proximity to people helps all to trim out. Good luck!

I can relate. Being around people is helpful though...I like the structure of book clubs, zen meditation groups, yoga classes, any committees I feel like I could be valuable on. It's an easy way to maybe start some relationships because you are already there for common goals. And yet if you don't make new friends, you've had some time with others. I actually really like Zen meditation...we sit silently and stare at the wall. Not social at all! But I feel supported in how we are all trying to find peace together. It feels like a very friendly, supported place.
