They just put out an article our little local military news letter that said that they are having some positive results with acupuncture. Has anyone ever heard of this or tried it? I'm just curious but the whole idea of letting someone stick needles in me is a little uncomfortable for me. I like to do the sticking not receive them. But hey, if it works for some, I'm all for it. I'd stand on my head wearing a pink tutu if it would help.

There is a holistic healing plac were I live and I'v heard of that stile of treatment for depression. But most of the time it was depression from cronic pain. I am going to check with them about it because I want of all the meds or at least cut back. The Dr. that does it is suposed to be one of the top in the nation or at least that what they advertise. So thanks for that info I would also wear that pink tutu and dance infront of a thousand people. Because I want some of the emotions back that the meds took away. Tex

I am hearing you Tex. Good luck today or tomorrow my time.
Your medication is only part of the reason for the emotions mate. The most of it is your bodies natural coping mechanism when stressed. And you would have a fair bit of that at the moment.
Otherwise you would end up in a straight jacket and in a padded cell.

Before I had back surgery, I used to go to a massage therapist you did mainly trigger point massage and dry needling. It hurt like a bitch, but you felt better afterwards.
Anyway, getting back on track, she had to go to Sydney (2500 km) away to do a special course on massage and dry needling for PTSD treatment. I don't know how it works, but like Tex says, if it works I would pay.

The down side, our VA won't recognise massage or dry needling. They only recognise physiotherapists who only treat one area.

I tell you what, after a proper relaxation massage (not a rub and tug), you feel so much stress gone.

Acupuncture and massage both tend to work well with PTSD as a stress relief measure. They aren't cures, they don't remove symptoms, but they can lessen your weekly overall stress from your body, thus your symptoms will reduce.

So yes... there are benefits in both acupuncture and massage for PTSD sufferers.

I been thinking about going to a chiapractor, sp, for my neck. I take all the stress in my neck. Mostly at night, I'll pull my head, like a turtle pulling his head into his shell. Wake up with a lot of pain there. Maybe doing that might help me cut back on my pain meds. Thanks for the recommendation,

Sarg

Sarg,

Before my back surgery, I used to go to a massage therapist for my neck and between the shoulder blades. That was where I held all my stress, along with the hinge of my jaw.
It did hurt a lot, but afterwards I felt so drained. And the next day, full of beans

I don't think the VA in the US pays either. They will send you to physical therapy or a chiropractor if the can't fix it at the hospital. But I am going to give it a try with me paying just to see the benefits. I will wait till after the baby and Seren is healed up.

Mate, as you know, if you can afford it, there is no price I would not pay to relieve stress some days. It saves on drinking, getting angry and the other releases.

My therapist has been doing massage as a way of down-regulating me at the end of each session. 15-20 minutes and I have to say that most days I leave feeling pretty darn good. Of course, life catches us with me later. But more often then not it lasts at least the rest of the day. I recommend it if you can afford it. And no the VA does not cover acupuncture, or so I have been told when I last went down... But Kaiser's policy does. So I have that going for me, which is nice...

Think I'll check further into this. Even if it just helps releave some of the stress and anxiety for a little while it will be worth it. Let ya'll know how it goes. Thanks for the feedback!

So your full of 3 inch long needles and an earthquake strikes and you fall off the table onto the ground...hmm...end of all problems. Or maybe someone runs past and knocks you off the table. yeah.
I always looked at those shops as just being rub and tug places. Not my cup of tea. I will try to belive it works but I dont think I will ever give it a go. About as holistic I get is drinking green tea. :)
