Is there a reason why you are stuck to your current job, employers and country? You sound intelligent, experienced and competent - aren't there better people you could be working for after your maternity leave?
@Sandstone Not really, journalism is a terrible industry. There are only a handful of well-paying, decent outlets in this part of the world, and they all have hiring freezes. Moving back West and finding work isn't really feasible without enough savings to be able to pay rent and settle down first, and i haven't been able to find any companies that would help with relocation expenses in my line of work. It's also impossible to find a new job in the U.S. from here -- I've been trying for a long time and they just don't trust someone applying from Ukraine. It's a vicious cycle - you need money to be able to move to be eligible for better paying jobs.
What @FridayJones said... only she said it better.
I didn't grow up in poverty. My daughter did, but she doesn't see it that way. And she's way more functional now than I was at her age.
It's understandable that you are scared, and "stressful" is an understatement about your current situation. But I think, if you turn the question from "Can I do this?" to "How can I do this?" you will come up with possibilities. Lean on us for ideas. People like coming up with creative solutions.
