Advice On Klonipin Withdrawal

Hey, all,

I came to the best people who would know about this; my doctor is in the midst of switching my medication and has ceased prescriptions of Klonipin in the meantime. I would take .5mg per day and I'm definitely reeling from the results of it. I'm drinking chamomile tea that helps on small occasions, but is there more?

I've read that valium is a good transitional med, but I can't get my psychiatrist to prescribe it. He put me on Cymbalta, but I'm not doing well at present.

You are smart to get off it now while you are only on 0.5mg.

I was taking 5mg, and am now down to 4mg and totally losing it - also looking for advice...

:( I don't know if I can see her Fridays, unfortunately. I'm trying but I really just want to crawl up in a ball and cry or sleep until I see her next Monday.

I can not relate to this withdrawals, but I am also currently on klonopin .5mg. I've been on it for over a month and I think my body is getting used to the dosage. I was given remeron to try but decided with the psych to stay on the klonopin for a little longer.

It's definitely not for long term use.

You can try listening to music (lullabies in particular), pray if you believe in faith/spirituality, hot showers does wonders, watch documentaries, etc... just my 2 cents.

I went to bed early last night and listened to Loreena McKennitt for about 12 hours. It's an improvement (just woke up) but I'll let you guys know what helps. I'm hoping to feel better so I can do homework.

I am not even sure if I am being completely weaned off of it, to be honest. I had a bad episode earlier this week, so my doctor thought it would be in my best interest not to give me any for the week. She gave me Abilify and is tapering me off Zoloft, but not sure about the Klonipin :(

I have read somewhere allergy pills help, so I'm trying those until I can make it to Monday. Also, I wanted to add if anyone is in a similar boat and wants to know the same thing: Chamomile helps for a little bit; it will wear off in a few hours. I have been going to bed for a long period of time, but I'm suffering from restless sleep. I will say what the children's allergy pills do after tomorrow, haha.

Graven Idol... is your doctor tapering you off, or have they just simply stopped prescribing it? It is common practice to taper off Clonazepam, not to just simply cease taking it.

When you mention allergy pills - do you mean phenergan? That will make you drowsy, so it does aid sleep.

What other medication are you on? My doctor boosted up my Seroquel to help with my sleep, but also to help me come off the last bit of clonazepam I was taking. I had the world's worse headaches for maybe a week to a week and a half and my anxiety shot through the roof, horrible nightmares etc, but I've come out the other side (albeit still working on controlling my anxiety mind you!).

Graven Idol, Ericaboo. Klonopin is not something you just suddenly stop. I was on a high dosage for a while and a past doctor had me suddenly quit taking it because I was over-medicated. Like Bilby, I started to have panic attacks, insomnia, sweating, and other unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. You may want to try practicing relaxation techniques like meditation, progressive muscle relaxation, and exercise. Also, don't be afraid to talk things out with a friend and be gentle with yourself. Always remember there is light over the horizon. Thank you for sharing everyone.

Delta62 - I was tapered off it - but I still had withdrawal symptoms. I don't doubt for an instant they would be worse if he had just stopped me on the dose I had been taking originally.
