AI Disabled

OpenAI have cancelled my API access because they have now decided that any therapeutic discussion must be overseen by a qualified therapist.

Funny thing... I bet you can go use the free version to do the same though! I would recommend that for those that need instant help / want to discuss some private things with instant feedback.

you can still tell open AI to act like a therapist, psychologist or psychiatrist and it’s working. I even skirted an SI thought and though it flagged it continued the conversation. Since I wasn’t logged in to my account it’s not like they could suspend privileges.

Does that mean if we ask you can delete our private threads? I mean it’s not like they can help anyone else since no one has access.

Yes, people are indeed using the free version as therapy. I have seen this discussed many times over, elsewhere, as more and more people become disillusioned with actual therapists.

I have not personally tried this as after I realized I was using AI to get reassurance, I knew it was not a tool for me.

Shame that it’s no longer available. I was having some issues with my qualified therapist and used your AI to help me find the right words because I was finding it difficult being objective. Went back to my psychiatrist and told her that I was uncomfortable with her approach (as your AI suggested) and she apologised. Your AI helped me to correct my highly qualified therapist’s technique. It didn’t stop me from seeing the therapist but it did help me with the confusion that sometimes happens during therapy.

I’m saddened by the fact that your AI service has been shut down. Thanks for having the service in the first place. I found it extremely helpful.

Nice to read you again Eve.

Thank you for the link to our old AI threads @anthony !

We were discussing this in a user's diary here yesterday and @barefoot explained how to use ChatGPT to get similar results.

I'd been finding it very frustrating just using the regular ChatGPT website because with the service I was using, it couldn't remember what I'd asked a couple of questions earlier and kept getting stuck and kept giving answers that weren't very helpful.

@barefoot pointed out that if you create an account with ChatGPT and log into it, you suddenly get a whole other experience - you can give it instructions like "talk to me like a trauma therapist in all your messages please, unless I give other instructions in future" and it will. And it will also remember all your messages and their content and context and take them into consideration, pretty much as the AI here has done.

Also, @barefoot pointed out that if you get a paid ChatGPT account, you can even refine it further by using ChatGPT's "create a bot" feature, where you can give it very detailed instructions (more than just "talk to me like a trauma therapist").

I may try that in future, but I'm finding that the creating a free account and logging into it is giving me results that are quite similar to the AI therapy service here, so far.

I guess one thing to consider in using it, given the issues that OpenAI raised here about being concerned about using the AI for discussions about suicidal ideation or explicit sexual abuse content - whether that's an issue that could also arise if you use a private ChatGPT account for those topics?

@anthony I don't know if you can give us any pointers of what parameters to give the AI (or the bot, if you set one up) other than "talk to me like a trauma therapist" ?

That's too bad. I understand the concern. I've been grateful for the AI assist via the private Dr. Bloom. I was using the AI response while under the treatment of a licensed practitioner. The Dr. Bloom responses to my debriefing posts during Prolonged Exposure Therapy were excellent for AI, and way better than the average person should or could have to respond, and helped me sort through online resources without having to expose humans to the graphic nature of my trauma. Most of Dr. Bloom's replies were textbook in the respect that if I had a textbook for my treatment modality on my computer Dr. Bloom would reply with the strategies that the textbook would indicate at that moment, without me having to sort through and read the entire textbook.
