American Sniper (free)

Thanks dutchie I'm glad I'm not the only one that is exactly like that. I do really want to watch it maybe I should just tell my brother in law to go and watch it.

Critics, for the most part, seem to like it I think? I only heard about this flick two days ago because I was at the theater anyway to see The Imitation Game. I have no intention of seeing it anytime soon, though my Idon'tknowwhatthef*ckheisatthispoint stillhusbandthing may end up dragging me to it.

We had a weird conversation about it earlier today.

Me: It's about a Navy SEAL sniper.
Him: What did he do?
Me: He shot people? f*ck, I'm not an expert on him. That's about all I know of him.
Him: If he was a snipe then the movie would be about him being really dirty.

I'm sure the Squids here will appreciate that it took me like 30 minutes to get it. That was when I finally remembered someone on this site (Spock?) mentioning snipes, and providing a definition for us non-Naval vets.

The Imitation Game is r good and it shouldn't be nearly as much of a trigger (unless you were in the Navy, maybe? my kindasortahusbandthing got super tense when there was some brief, grainy Actual Footage of
WWII Naval combat) soooo if you're going to see a movie this month then see that.

I knew American Sniper was a book, but I never read it, never planned to. The only one of those memoirs I could ever get through was Kaboom by Matt Gallagher.

So I attempted to see how watching an Afghanistan war movie would go so u watched jar head 2. I am definitely not ready to watch american sniper that is for sure. I had to get up and leave the room a couple times. But on the positive I think my brother in law is finally starting to see how different things effect me

I've watched it, and loved it. Yes, it hits a lot of nerves, but to be perfectly honest, one of the best depictions of the effect of war on both sides. Spouses should watch this to understand what their partners go through on operations, and veterans should learn from Chris Kyle that they have to deal with their shit on return, as nobody else is going to do it for you, and that spouses just don't understand, but want to help you become you again.

Thank you Anthony! This is exactly what I've been trying to get people to understand. It is a well-done film the finally depicts post combat trauma and the effects of combat on the whole family from his denial to Chris finding his smile again. (y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)

Anthony and Spock, your words might convince even me to watch it.
Seems to be a different kind of warmovie.
Thank you.
Sure...you might check it out while it is still free on the link I provided if you want to check it out and manage it better before trying the full blown theater experience. I just saw it in the theater yesterday with my wife and she was fully supportive & greatly appreciated the movie, for all the reasons Anthony pointed out. She also liked that the spouses suffering was depicted as well. Even made her proud of her service to the military experience.

Most audiences sit in silence at the end and leave slowly with little sound. My wife turned and told me how proud she was of me and thanked me for still being here with her despite the complications of combat trauma. Made me feel like a million dollars. I think she learned a lot from seeing the film. She has been on a supportive high since.
