Anger Management Course

UPDATE: so I talked to my therapist about my rage issues and my plans for the anger course, and she started working with me right in the office using a method called The Work (The 4 Questions) from a book called Loving What is by Byron Katie. It has actually helped a lot, and I've used it anytime recently I've gotten into a rage/hyperalert situation with success so far. So for right now I'm going to see if this alone will get the job done for me, it's nicer than spending $300 bucks and taking time out of my schedule. If I ever find that I still need the course on top of the therapy I won't hesitate to take it but for now my therapist's techniques are working really well and she's provided free. I'm lucky to have a really good therapist.

In my opinion, to do an anger management course you have to want to be there and be at the end of the rope, just like an addict has to hit rock bottom.
So many people get placed on anger management courses, and others go on them as they heard it could be good. Not many of these will take in and absorb everything that is said.
You have to realise that your anger is destroying your life or pushing those close to you away, and then be prepared to do anything to rectify that.

I must admit though that you can walk in to one course and not get on with the facilitator so you won't learn as much as if you get along well with the person presenting the information.

I am so over these hero's that say they are so bad arse, and that there anger has got them in so much shit, yet they won't take any notice of anyone. and refuse to believe anything can fix them.

When anger has caused that much destruction in your life that you have nothing and nobody in it anymore your sense of reality changes.

Sorry, it still hurts.

Hope all works for you FUBAR. Remember mate that the big come down from using pot and benzo's for so long will have a toll of your temper bubble. It subsides after a while.

Exactly right. Anger management does not work if you are pissed off at having to take anger management classes...

My anger became so bad that I started to pick fights with anyone, anywhere, anytime. I'm a big fella (6'5" / 260 lbs) and was an ARMY Combatives instructor in addition to my regular MOS. Making a long story short, my anger made me a risk to myself and people in my immediate area. An anger management course was a MUST DO, and I'm grateful that I went through it. I learned it is better to use intellectual tools to deal with anger instead of physically lashing out at anyone / anything within your reach. Even though the physical approach is personally satisfying in the short term, its negative ramifications never fail to catch up with you. Take the course, put up with its bullshit and pain and become a "better you".

Keep at it, work hard and enjoy your success.

Just my two cents...

Brother you need to get a handle on this shit before it ruins you. Talk to a doctor about getting on a long acting anti anxiety/depression medication along with something short acting to keep you level headed while you wait for the long acting shit to kick in. I had the same problem and did a lot of crazy shit trying to facilitate the violence I craved (needed). Among other things, I damn near slit a family members throat in front of his wife kids.

I decided to listen to my wife and go to the doctor, they put me on Effexor (or however the f*ck you spell it) and Ativan. Im off the ativan now (was only on it for a month) and the Effexor is doing its job. It doesnt make me a happy idiot, or an emotional zombie, it just reduces my anger to a level that is manageable. Now I can think my way through situations that would normally fire me up. Im at the point now where my emotions no longer dictate my actions, my brain does (like how it was when I was in).

I know its hard trying to integrate back into society. These nasty, unfocused, undisciplined broke-dick civilians don't know their ass from a f*cking hole in the ground and they ask the dumbest f*cking questions. But, that's what we have to deal with now that we are back in the world brother. So unless you like the idea of spending your life in prison, I suggest you do whatever it takes to ensure your stability.

If you ever want to chat just shoot me a message. The alert will pop up on my phone and ill jump on as long as im home.

Stay on point brother.

Very true words! Do what you need to do to get the anger under control... a life in prison is a terrible thing. Talk to your VA support agent -- this type of support is free to combat veterans. You earned it, you are entitled to it -- go get it!
