News Anti-Depressants Found Useless On Anything Less Than Severe Depression

Well, what most of us already knew, finally some physicians decided to go against the drug companies and perform some independent studies on anti-depressants, and the results conclusively proved that they are useless on mild to moderate depression, and only found to be effective on severe depression.

I think we have all known, well, anyone who has tried anti-depressants, you have more issues with them than they do good with daily depression of a mild nature. They worked for me for a short time when I was really badly depressed during the initial aspects of PTSD... basically when I didn't know what it was, how to help myself, how to manage myself. They work for a short period and then totally useless... to the point where they counter their initial purpose and as you become less depressed by yourself, the medication often makes you more depressed or suicidal, violently sick, etc.

The dawn of a new era is coming around were physicians are getting more under the microscope, the Internet is greatly improving accessibility to information and people are questioning physicians more than ever. All of this is really starting to improve our medical advice and give less dependence to the corruption that comes from corporations, ie. pharmaceutical companies.

Yeh!!!

I would say that many should be proud that we have had it right here on this site for many years, being that the best results for depression are obtained via a balanced combination of common-sense, being:

  • Counselling
  • Reduce alcohol intake
  • Nutrition & exercise
  • Vitamin D & Fish oil
  • Ensure you’re not iron deficient
  • Manage chronic health problems
  • Proper sleep routine
  • Rethink lifestyle choices

I am on another forum, and this article was posted on there too. It generated quite a ruckus, as many on that forum, believe that AD's are the only way to go. I stayed out of that discussion....

I firmly believe that the 2 things that have helped me....

I exercise 5 hours a week,(Cardio) and I take 4000 IU of vitamin D3 everyday!!!! Those 2 things have help tremendously!!!!

This isn't really new stuff though, but more makes what many already knew more official. I know that Beyond Blue, who is the largest depression clinic in Australia, actually use the above techniques over medication and have done for years. It was from them I learnt my knowledge on depression and how best to treat it.

Yep... Wendy, that could have been an interesting one to get into to. I think you should jump into it honestly armed with all the facts that you can. Medication isn't totally bad, it does have its appropriate uses, but those uses are when all else fails, not as a first defence. They identified that GP's (General Practitioners) are the worst and most inexperienced for handing these out in Australia. Its not the shrinks, its the local general doctor who people see and then get handed some medication that even the doctor doesn't truly understand.
