Antidepressants For Anxiety?

My psychiatrist put me on Valium and upped the dose to 30 mg a day along with the other medications I take. I need to find a new therapist that deals specifically with PTSD, not with general therapy.

Cymbalta (duloxatine) was my very first anti-depressant, and it absolutely reduced my anxiety - even before it affected the depression.

It's an SNRI; I think they all work on anxiety.

Mood stabilizers can also work: lamictal was also helpful for me.

Lorazepam, clonazepam (the Pams, my doctor calls them) are excellent for occasional use but aren't good long-term daily drugs. Personally, I'd ask to try some other things.

Finding the right medication is a frustrating process. Just keep looking. You'll feel it when it's the right one.

I tried every antidepressant and nothing helped with my anxiety. So I was put on atypical antipsychotics they really helped with all my symptoms, anxiety, depression etc

Unfortunately they are major weight gainer meds. I gained fifty pounds and I can't get it off. I'd stop them but it helps my anxiety. Drugs in this class are Geodon, Zyprexa, Risperdal. When you take more than one med it's hard to figure out which one is not working. And sometimes taken together causes unwanted symptoms. Good luck I hope you can get a handle on your anxiety. I try to meditate and have energy therapies that have really helped.
