Anxiety Attack

James999 7/7,

Anxiety is something I have to deal with a lot and it can be so very uncomfortable. There are different ways I will deal with them depending on the severity. I don't know if you have a doctor or have seen one but you might consider that at some point if these become a regular issue.

When I wake up with anxiety one of the things I tend to do is grab one or both of my dogs and go for a walk to release the adrenaline overload that tends to come with an attack. Steady breathing and stretching of my muscles (music if you have it) helps to calm me down.

If going out isn't something I can bring myself to do and calling someone doesn't feel right to me (both tend to work in different cases) I will turn on a comedy on TV or something mindless for distraction. I also play games that force me to redirect my energy.

I too have two dogs, a jack russell called Nip and a Italian Spinone called Basso and usually I would do the same but 7 months ago I had an accident. I fell off a roof and have broken my heel into a million pieces. I also broke my pelvis in 4 places and broke my elbow. So I spent 2 months in hospital and a further 4 months in a wheel chair. I am now on crutches.

I greatly appreciate the advice though. Maybe I should pick up the play station and distract myself.

Good advice. Thanks and take care.

I'm sorry you're going through this. It is pretty horrible. What helps me, while the xanax is kicking in, is taking a walk with someone or a book on Audible, or have someone take me on a ride. I don't know why it helps but the movement of my body gets my mind off of my symptoms.

I have periods of panic attacks every few weeks. I have them at night only. I wonder why? But my lifesaver is xanax. I only take it when I feel that panicy feeling and my arms start to tingle. It sure works. It's horrible to have that feeling that you're going to die. Even if you know you've lived through lots of them before and the doc says there's nothing wrong with you.

I hope it's gone by the time you read this.

I'm sorry to read of your accident, ouch! I have one dog that 's a Service Dog and she is trained to assist me with my flashbacks and severe bouts of panic. What Herc mentioned about going through the attack is where a good pet, trained or not, can help. Both my girls are very helpful by laying down with me where I can pet them and work on breathing techniques - concentrating on where I am, how I am breathing, and the energy of the dogs.

It takes practice and it's not easy at first but I use the mantra "I'm okay I'm okay", speaking it out loud, others may use something else, but knowing it will pass despite the panicky feeling can be helpful. Chances are you may be experiencing these more because you are unable move around as much as you had been able to, just a guess.

Please take care,
Peace and healing,
Rain
