Well, I have to stay again Thursday night. I had mild symptoms for 3 different disorders, so no clear answers. Doc wants me to go ahead and try a CPAP even though my numbers were only 5.7 and he doesn't usually treat until 15. I had some restless leg events and some daytime disorder issues. I am discouraged by no clear answers and that I have sleep there again in 3 nights.

I have decided that I want to talk to my primary doctor before I go back to the sleep center. I want to make sure that I am making the right choice. I think that the CPAP is going to be extremely dificult to sleep with. I just feel so anxious. I feel like I cannot breathe. I want it to be tomorrow so that I can call and make the appointment.

Nie, my doc was able to guide me toward better choices (I switched from a c-pap machine to a mouth orthotic last October with excellent results after 3 years of trying to get a good fit) with completed comprehensive reports from the sleep lab.

If there are indicators of other sleep disorders... he'll be able to advise you better if you complete the sleep lab testing. Clearly you're on the right track. It may be that the recommendation for the CPap would help them eliminate the apnea and get a more solid picture on the other issues. I'd ask the sleep lab if you can wear a c-pap for the study and make the decision with your doctor after the other tests are concluded.

P.S. My mouth orthotic is very comfortable... except for biting the heck out of it during nightmares... it doesn't give me any difficulty or disturb my sleep... it is custom made for my palet and teeth. It's a whole lot easier to clean and I'm not tangled up in tubing or fretting about the filters and mask replacements every 3 months. "Silent Sleep" was the recommendation, and I'm very glad I did it.

I just reread my post and found some humor in that I was talking about sleep apnea and not wanting the CPAP, and in the next sentence I said I felt like I couldn't breathe. Ha!

My primary care doctor is on vacation until August 4. I went ahead and canceled the second overnight for now. I am going to call my rheumatology doctor since he is the one that scheduled the test. I just don't want to get into something that isn't really needed if I can do a simpler less expensive option that will work as well.

I just saw this thread, sorry.

I hope you can do whatever you need to do to get some resolution. I can only imagine the anxiety involved. My wife sleeps better on CPAP but it certainly took some getting used to. On one hand she still feels it is kind of a pain in the you know what but on the other hand she sees that it has helped in several ways.

Hang in there Nie. Reschedule if you need to, OK?

Ok, here is the current plan. I called my sleep doctor and told him that for now I want to hold off on the CPAP. He is ok with that. I am going to see my psychiatrist on Monday to talk about the medication that I am on, as it often has a fatigue side effect. I am going to see my primary care doctor next week when he retuns to talk about finding a nutrition specialist and getting some ideas for a more focussed exercise routine. Along with that I am going to stop nursing. These choices should help jump start the rest of my needed weight loss. I am going to stay caffeine free, and try to cut back if not out chocolate. I am going to try going back to a mostly glueten free diet, as I do have a slight wheat sensitivity. I am going to try to cut out sugars. If these changes don't help, and nothing shows up in my next set of bloodwork, then I will go back for the CPAP. Thank you all for your support.

Sounds like a good plan. And you can still do the CPAP if needed. CPAP is not that bad for many. I know I am sounding like a broken record about CPAP.

Hey, you are probably too young to know what that even means! A broken record would sound like,

CPAP is not that bad
CPAP is not that bad
CPAP is not that bad
CPAP is not that bad

:p
