Any advice for not getting razor burn?

Sorry for the super random thread. I'm currently a ball of discomfort, and figure it can't hurt to ask.

I've used about 4 different soaps/shaving gels, and a couple different types of razors.
Not exactly sure what's going on, but recently I can't manage to shave my legs without getting major razor burn.

The one thing I haven't tried is shaving with the direction of my leg hair (which, come to think of it, I do on other areas of the body and they aren't suffering with this), is that something that others do? Or just any advice on the subject in general?

Thanks!

Bikini Line = Secret Unscented Solid Deodorant. Immediately after shaving. (Be kind! Tongues are supposed to be wet, and getting deodorant on them is almost as unpleasant as getting it in your eyes. Use baby wipes, and then a warm washcloth, before oral. Or warn your partner.) Although, to be frank, waxing hurts less than razor burn, (a LOT less); and lasts longer (2+ months).

Rest o’yours legs? = I’d lay money you just lost weight or gained a bunch of muscle tone, or both. Makes the skin just a BIT loose for awhile, and the little hairs get lost and start to ingrow. Usually not bad, unless you’ve lost a LOT of weight, but just enough that when you shave you’re cutting them free of a thin layer of skin, because they’re half poking up through it. Essentially like shaving over goosebumps, you’ll give yourself a zillion ultra tiny no blood supply/first few layers of skin only, nicks. Which makes skin angry  and sulk :inpain: about it = Super easy fix. Scrub your legs with a loofa to free them from the skin, then shave. If you shave every other day? Make sure to loofa on the off days, too. After a little while the skin tightens back up and the hairs stop getting lost.

Oddly, a fresh razor under hot water (gets rid of those goosebumps), with nothing. So in the shower, after washing, long enough to soften the hairs with the heat of the shower.

If I use shaving cream, hair conditioner (shaving hack from time on a public hospital ward), soap, basically anything but plain water? I get a rash.

Personally, I would give Aloe Vera a try. The fresh plant is best and if you go for store bought watch out for the alcohol content which can dry your skin. Aloe can be used to prep your skin, assist with shaving, and invoke healing as well. I have sensitive skin and have used Aloe Vera many times to help moisturize and to assist with wound healing. Anyways I hope you find something that works for you.

Thanks so much! I have the extreme misfortune of having to do this to my face. I buy lots of different gels oils and razors. Nothing works consistently. I've gotten much better at not cutting my face or giving myself such severe razor burn it hurts all day, and I have to keep checking the mirror for blood. I ended up in front of the men's shaving section in Wally world this week and got a product by "every man jack" Because I like the name it's used in "treasure island". I don't get my hopes up but l like it so far.

Invest in laser treatments if you can. Worth every penny (especially on legs)
Yeah - my mum did this when one too many spinal fusions made shaving her legs pretty impossible. I'm jealous. She never has to shave, yet always looks freshly shaven.

One of my sisters switched to waxing her legs in her late teens because that didn't upset her skin like shaving did.

It’s truly amazing. Beats waxing and shaving. I paid 200 US dollars for a year of treatment ( I even skipped a few) and now few years later I only shave every 1 or two weeks max or whenever ti notice some hair coming out, but it’s just a few. I was so self conscious before this.
