A week ago, I was in a head on collision. Managed to survive it with remakably few physical injuries.

The day of the accident the drs had to insert a drainage pipe into the "pocket" surrounding my lungs as there was a cut leaking.

The procedure was supposed to be 30 minutes using an everyday anesthetic. Something went wrong - apparently I'm allergic to this anesthetic.

I distinctly remember being part of some downward spiral that had lots of colors. I knew it was me and that it was a forever thing - no pearly whites...

I wasn't afraid or really felt anything emotionally. Some sounds, sensations but mostly the colors.

This is really bothering me. I'm seeing it at different times...being triggered by sudden light mostly.

Has anyone else had some type of near death experience that you can recall?

I wonder if hearing someone else's experience might help to validate mine or help me to better understand what happened to me.

One of my suicide attempts, I think I crossed over. Lighted tunnel, shapes on both sides of me and my grandfathers voice telling me that it wasn’t my time and I had to go back. Actually it was the most peace I’ve ever felt.....

I know it probably scared the crap out of you, but try not to let it affect you too much. Glad that your ok from the accident. That must have been really scary...

I've died a few times & been brought back. The longest that I know of was for a few minutes. They weren't all timed.

They were all very different experiences.

A few were deeply disturbing, a few were very profound, a couple were WTF?!? :O_o:

Whether they were real, or the last firings of electrons across my hopes & fears, thoughts & feelings? I don't know.

I think what I believe may be more important than what I know.

I am not sure if this counts. The only near death experience I can think of was the time that I had a close call and was very nearly hit by a large moving van/truck. Had the accident actually occurred, it would have hit me (and my daughter) in the divers door at about 45-50 mph.

There was a huge, black shape or cloud that hovered above me for several minutes, along with severe nausea, coldness, and trembling that left me feeling shaken and deeply disturbed for days. Not what I have heard most people describe but there it is, for what it's worth.

I guess that is a different experience than what you were looking for....sorry!

Got brought back. Paddles on the chest “Clear” style. Don’t remember much. Slipped calmly into sleep, then it was a few days, post coma later and I was awake. Nothing in between.

When you’re describing the coloured lights, is that something you’re visually seeing with your eyes or more something you’re just sensing or seeing in your mind’s eye?

I was in a coma for two weeks from double pneumonia, third stage empyema and A.R.D.S.(acute respiratory distress syndrome) I lost the bottom part of my lung from this. When they were inserting the chest tubes I crashed and had a NDE. I experienced the white light, peace, understanding...all within the light. I was given a choice...sometimes I wonder why I chose to come back.

One of the strange things. I wasn't afraid at all. Maybe a calm accepting that whatever was happening was just "it".

The accident hasn't really processed yet. Scared the crap out of everyone else. Other than remembering some details, I don't think I've necessarily personalized it yet.

I don't know. The colors are very vivid and real. I would guess saw with my eyes. It was moving all around me...sort like being sucked in. There was no choice about it. If just was.

What terrifies me is the trigger response. When I watch a program with the kids, there can be a flash of light and suddenly the whole color experience flashes in my mind as though I'm seeing it again. Same thing if a car drives by and the sun glancing off the side.

May I ask why there is so much fear associated with the memory when you are triggered?
I guess I really don't know. It just does. The colors flash...seemingly triggered by white light and I feel terror.

I didn't know anything about the pulmonary arrest until a little bit later. So I didn't link the two until later. The timings match up perfectly.

I'm also not sure if was a choice to come back. Just that the voices calling got louder and sensations to people squeezing my hands, legs began to be more real and eventually I responded.
