Anyone Have Experience With Buspirone/Buspar?

I recently started Buspirone for generalized anxiety/panic attacks. Does anyone have experience with this? How does it work for you?

I haven’t noticed much difference yet, it’s been about a week and a half so I’m not sure if it’s too soon to tell. My pdoc said that some of her patients say they feel the effects immediately. I am not having that experience.

I take it twice a day. I started on 5mg and I am going up to 10mg starting tonight, so hopefully that helps. Maybe I’m making this post too soon and not giving it enough time to take effect. I’m just worried about this one not working, because if it doesn’t she said my other option is one that will probably make me gain weight, and I’m just really not okay with that. Would rather just be an anxious mess... although that’s probably something I should address in therapy.

Anyway, any input would be greatly appreciated!

I was on Buspar for a few months. It was one of two medications I've taken that seemed to have zero effect on me whatsoever (the other was Remeron).

I swear by my Buspirone, but I have to take almost the top safe dose for it to work. I take 15 mg twice a day, and 20mg at night before sleep, so I'm taking 50mg a day. When I get totally stressed, I'll take 3 doses of 20mg a day (which is my actual prescription). I've been taking this stuff for about 4 years now, and it works, but I had to use other life-style changes and anxiety-reducing herbs to make it really effective. Basically, it just takes the edge off so my lips don't turn blue from unconsciously holding my breath from anxiety.

Thanks for the feedback. I think I’m judging it a little too soon...will likely just need to give it more time and see how I feel once the does goes up. I’ll report back after i’ve been on the higher dose for a little while, ha

I'm on 15 mg twice a day. I was started on this in rehab ~11 mos ago, and I do think it helps. Everyone's biochemistry is so different though, especially in terms of how they react to psych meds. I hope it helps you and I would definitely try to give it a bit more time. I don't remember it working overnight.

Yeah, I figured it was a little soon and the starting dose a little low. I’ve been up to 10mg for a few days now. I think it’s making a little difference. I normally feel at least a little constant buzz of anxiety everyday, but the past week or so it hasn’t been as constant. Still very much there for sure, but I get some nice little breaks in between where it’s much quieter than usual.

I took 20mg 2x a day and just take 10mg 2x a day now. The consistent usage helped me. I couldn't do without it for a long time.
