I used to be kinda artistic as a kid, painting sculpting evan got into wood carving. My high school actually bought for the school district office a painting of mine I did in class to hang in their building lobby. Recently though digital art has been a fun learning experience for me..passion almost at one point. Maybe I'll post something I have been thinking about starting in photoshop using the site logo.

Fun thread love the green leaves photo on the last page, freshly washed and cooled with beads of water.

I enjoy painting pictures with my words whenever the notion strikes...here's a rhyme from days gone by:

Kicked to the curb by beliefs once held tight,
Prompting more selectiveness in battles I choose to fight,
Heart's more at ease, no longer aimlessly lost in flight,
Humor satiated while learning to set my own shit right.

In a world determined to force statistics,
Parasitic demands spike even more resistance.
GPS can't locate self or take you into the mystic,
Slow down, take heart, and nurture your existence.

The Child

The wind howls
through barren boughs.
The moon hangs full and round
casting shadows on the cold, sere ground.
Through a moonlit graveyard
among tombstones cold and hard,
taking a solitary stroll
is a lonely child, a lost soul.
His world is all shades of gray,
his dreams are all tattered and frayed.
He wanders alone through the starless night
not another soul in sight.
He carries about a heavy load
in his world, somber and cold.
He yearns to sit and rest,
but isn't that, the same as death?

Hi, I 'm new to this site and in snooping through the forums, I saw this subject on art. I love to carve gourds, take photos, and do paper crafting. My Dr. told me to use this as one of my ways to calm myself when triggered however, through the years, art and crafts have always been an escape, a safe place, for me. At the moment, gourd carving is my favorite art form. I made one to give to my therapist but was embarrassed to do so. I was fearful that it was not good enough so it is still sitting in my car. There is something so satisfying in letting the mind wander while processing things all while keeping the hands busy. The same goes for editing photos. The creative process seems to allow such a deep sense of expression, emotionally. People may find pleasure in a finished product, but I see and feel the emotional statement that produced it. Art is a stabilizer for me as it seems to be for many of you, too. Too bad we couldn't have an exhibition in support of PTSD and the healing process.

First, welcome to the forum! I'm glad you made your way to this thread! I would love to see your carved gourd. I'm not sure I've ever seen one. I'm sure you've noticed that we're not exactly critical of each other's work here, so please, don't feel embarrassed to post a photo!

I also wanted to say that, like you, I love the process more then the result. I think that's why I love working with wood. Feeling the rough grain turn satiny smooth in one's hands is so very satisfying. The sanding becomes an act of meditation for me.

Also, I love the idea of a PTSD exhibition. I think many of the pieces would scare the hell out of the Neurotypicals, though! :)
