Sexual Assault Article: Tv Show Jessica Jones Depiction Of Abuse

This show was just recommended to me by someone. Now I kinda want to watch it.

It gets... intense. Very sticking to reality with creepiness of rapists being also psycho stalkers & depiction of flashbacks and paranoia and looking over one's shoulder all the time. I marathoned it with The Mr. and we both concluded some advance prep for that show would be good, because it's just awesome in how it does trauma. :p

The article helped me so much to talk about PTSD with my partner. My trauma comes from a different place, but as it turns out abuse by narcissists is abuse by narcissists. I feel the show + artilce + conversation really helped him get a feeling for my situation, and I have learned lots new words to talk about it and process it.
Thanks!

I am watching it now.. And am about mid season. It resonates with me on so many different levels. Its very triggering for me so I do have to follow through with self care but it also validates all the emotional upheavals, flashbacks and anxiety distresses that I go through daily that nobody around me seems to understand. I'd like to watch it again with my husband to see if it will help him understand me better because Its hard for me to explain to him what I'm going through and this really is a great example and opportunity to help him gain insight.

That worked very, very well for my husbear and me!

One of my favorite moments in the show was in Episode 3, when Trish asked Jessica "I hate this feeling. How do you handle this?" and Jessica responded "It's called whiskey."
Their first meeting was a very difficult thing to see, for me. It was very familiar. They were basicaly estranged, and Trish did neither understand nor accept Jessica's avoidant behavior. Trish thought Jessica weak and insane. It's only when Trish understands the world that Jessica is living in, that their dynamic changes. Only when she took a short step into Jessica's f*cked up world, could she see that Jessica was neither weak and nor insane. Kilgrave only called Trish on her radio show. It was just the smallest of contacts and she didn't even experience his powers, but that small insight into Jessica's own private hell gave her back the respect for her sister that has been dormant.
At the end of the episode, shortly after this moment, Jessica saves Trish's life and their friendship is one of trust and respect again.
This is similiar to the lawyer, that never stopped belittling Jessica. The lawyer was extremely high functioning and thought Jessica just some lazy asshole slacker, making excuses. I guess everybody on this forum met a Jerry Hogarth. That person, that tries to make one believe one is just making excuses and being childish and lazy.
Anyway, talking about this show with my partner felt a bit like Trish learning about Kilgrave's influence. He is reacting differently to me, and is asking questions about PTSD, which he never really did.

By the way, does anyone know what the deal was with Ruben's sister? Forget her name. The insane and shrill one. She confused me, I did not understand a thing about her. Probably because I never met a person like her.
OMG I hope I am not that person. I also throw fits about raw chicken and salmonellas! :wacky: One scene she appears a abusive narcissist, another suprisingly kind and insightfull, and then just awfull again. Very wierd person. Some time I pity her, because she must have seen some shit to end up like this, and then I think, nah, just a awfull person.

I love that show. The first episode I was hooked, because Jessica reminded me about how I was AFTER so much. Then I also gave up on watching it because it was unbelievably triggering. The camera work showing panic attacks and flashbacks is extremely well done, I could almost feel it myself. I decided to stick up with the show and I was glad. The story is well done, and I liked how Jessica started slowly regaining her power and taking her life back in control. Amazing show. It was about time there was a TV show that showed things like that that you can't always explain to people.
